David L. Mittelsteadt Sr

FLAG MITTELSTEADT, SR., DAVID L. MIDDLETON/RACINE-David Lee “Sarge” Mittelsteadt, Sr., age 71, formerly of Racine, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 in Madison. He was born on June 27, 1940 in Milwaukee. David was a veteran of the United States Army having proudly served his country from 1957 until his retirement in 1991, serving in Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm. He was awarded both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. David was united in marriage to Ellen Bellgraph on May 31, 2002 in Allengan, MI. He was an avid fisherman and ran his own charter fishing company on Lake Michigan for many years. David is survived by his wife, Ellen; thre sons, David L. (Dawn) Mittelsteadt, Jr., Terry (Cindy) Mittelsteadtand Stephan Mittelsteadt; a daughter, Sandy Mittelsteadt; his step-children, E. Joseph Thayer, Meg Skoien, Rebecca Thayer, Samuel Thayer, Gabrielle Grimes; three brothers, Robert (Sandy) Mittelstead, Randy (Laura) Cramer, Donald Rathkamp; eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents. A private family memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Burial will be on Friday, August 12, 2011 at Noon in Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
