Mildred A. (Neath) Bunnell

OREGON- Mildred A. (Neath) Bunnell, born on Jan. 18, 1919, died on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at age 92. She was the second of four children to Vaughn and Emma (Johnson) Neath in Oregon. Mildred attended Oregon and Stoughton schools, graduating from Stoughton High School in 1938. After graduation, she moved in with her grandparents on Jefferson Street in Oregon to assist with their care. Thus began a life-long commitment of giving care to others. Mildred married Don Bunnell in 1940. He preceded her in death in 1993. Mildred lived on Jefferson Street from the time of her high school graduation until two years ago when she moved to an assisted living facility in Stoughton. She touched the lives of so many people. Mildred provided care for many children throughout the years, and friendship to many more. She treated all of them as though they were her own. Several of the children she cared for kept in touch with her throughout her life. Mildred also took it upon herself to provide care and assistance to many of the elderly in her community. In addition, she provided life-long care to her husband, her mother and her uncle, Jack Johnson. It was after Jack’s death in 2001 that she realized her dream of moving into her own home, still on Jefferson Street. Mildred is survived by her sister, Barbara Hvam; brothers, Russell and Earl “Sonny” (Virginia) Neath; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park Street, Oregon, at 1 p.m, on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, with George Thode presiding. Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2011. Rather than flowers, memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 402 Gammon Place, Suite 110, Madison, WI 53719. Mildred’s family would like to recognize her friend, Dave Colson and his wife for their devotion to her. Additionally we would like to thank the staff of Harmony House Stoughton and HospiceCare for making her final days as comfortable as possible. Cemetery: Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery.
