Obituary

MONONA-Bernard Francis “Bernie” Walz, age 77, found peace on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, after a brief illness, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center. He was born on Aug. 14, 1934, in Seneca, the third of eight children to Irving and Emma (Rubel) Walz. Bernie graduated from Prairie du Chien High School and Milwaukee Technical School. He married Barbara Wanek on Nov. 11, 1961. They were planning for their 50th wedding anniversary this fall. Bernie owned and operated B&B Service Center located on East Washington Ave., for many years. In addition to being an avid Badgers, Brewers and Packers fan, Bernie also enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He was a devoted catholic and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Bernie was involved in the Elks Lodge #410 and the Monona Grove Businessmen’s Association. He was a very patient, caring and loving man. Bernie was a good father, always leading by example. His children will always remember his strong work ethic and keeping his family connected. Bernie was most attentive and loving as a husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Barb; children, Rick Walz of Monona and Sheri (Paul) Schlondrop of Menomonee Falls; grandchildren, Corp. Mitchell Walz (presently serving in Iraq), Ethan, Matthew and Owen Schlondrop; siblings, Norma Erdenberger, LaVonne (Ken) Doss, Jim (Margaret) Walz, Geri Bobrowicz, Glenn (Connie) Walz, and Sheila (Philip) Levin; brothers-in-law, Norlan “Norly” Arnesdorf and Dr. Ronald (Jan) Wanek; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beverly Arnesdorf; brothers-in-law, Jack Erdenberger; and Vic Bobrowicz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, with Father Bart Timmerman presiding, and a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Wednesday. A private family burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, WI. 53716, or HospiceCare, Inc. 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI. 53711. A special thank you to the doctors and staff at the UW Hospital-TLC unit and the Don & Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center. Cemetery: A private family burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date.
