Obituary

MADISON - Elizabeth Anne (Bean) Chastain-Blowers passed away early the morning of Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, losing her life to Alzheimer’s disease. Betty worked for thirty years as a proofreader and copy editor for Encyclopedia Britannica and continued to do free lance copy editing well into her seventies. Whether known as Betty, Mom, Grandma Betty, Aunt Betty, Cousin Betty, or Betty Anne, she was a gentle and loving person who had the ability to see the best and to believe in the goodness of everyone around her. A strong and deeply held faith, an enthusiastic appreciation for music, and an amazing breadth of knowledge about all things related to writing and literature are the gifts she shared with all of us. She is survived by her five children, Susan, David, Cathryn, Laura, and Bob; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a family extending across this country and into Europe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Celene Rowe Bean and Azel Edward Bean; her first husband, Harold David Chastain; and her second husband, Harold Blowers. A memorial service will be held at ST. LUKE’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 4011 Major Avenue, Madison, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, with Mother Paula Harris presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday. Visitation will be held at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday. Dear David and Susie, I knew your mother when your father, one of my favorite teachers, taught us at GHHS. Later I met her for lunch when she visited Celene who was my mother's friend. I began to realze then how intelligent and capable she was. I guess that I remember her smile the most; she just sparkled when she thought something was funny! You will not remember but I babysat for you a few times in 1957. I shall always remember your family with fondness. Blessings and love to all of you, Grace Ann (nee Smith) Weiler

Dear Mom, I loved you then, love you now, love you always. My Mom died when I was 24 and a few years later this wonderful woman also named Betty took me in and gave me a family and home and I appreciate and cherish the 14 years of that and the 25 en toto that you were Mom to me. I will miss you. All my love, Dev
