Obituary

MADISON/NEW GLARUS-Dorothy Mae (Fitch) Nesberg R.N., CFMO (certified fitter mastectomy-orthotics) took our savior’s hand on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at UW Hospital. She lives on with Him due to complications of a stroke in July. She was born the middle child of five, on Aug. 3, 1921, near Milesville, S.D., the daughter of Harvey and Mary Jane Fitch. Dorothy and her sister, Jane, went to work on the Rosebud Indian Reservation during their high school years. She worked for a doctor who persuaded her to go to nursing school. Dorothy graduated along with her best friend, Joanne Hockett in 1948, from Saint Vincent College of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, where she received the nickname “Ab”. They received a call from UW Hospital in Madison. Dorothy worked in men’s medicine and pediatrics ( how she loved the little children and “Miss Fitch” gave the best back rubs). She married Harold Laverne Nesberg in 1951 (who preceded her in 1999), and to them Debra and Laura were born. She enjoyed bridge club, listening to the For Mor, quilting, and embroidery. In 1958, (she could no longer lift patients) she was employed by Prescription Pharmacy in the Park Motor Inn, where she helped with orthotics and mastectomy patients. In 1972, she began Professional Garment Centre in Doctors Park. She continued serving all people with kindness, tears, and “a good listening ear” until her stroke. She loved to give the new brides and mothers an embroidered flower sack towel. Some were made to benefit “Gilda’s Club”. Her family that lives in hope and trust to join her in heaven are her daughters (she coddled), Debra Lee (Danny Ray) Brooks and Laura Lynn Nesberg; grandchildren (whom she adored), Sunni Mae (Matt) Schreiber, Harmony Rae, and Jesse John (Jayme); GREAT-grandchildren (whom she delighted in), Sierra Maelee, Ariana Elizabeth, Cullen Laverne, Sophia August, Ashley Elizabeth, Dylan Jacob, and Rylee Rae; brother-in-law, George Hart; sister-in-law, Elnore Nesberg; nieces and nephews (whom she loved to visit with), Sadie Rae and Doug Hovland, Linda, Pam, Steve, Cindy, and Susan Hart, Diane, Marianne, Jill, Burgess, Brian, and Bryce Fitch, and Joey, Joni, Juli, and Jan Pohlod. Those who preceded her were her parents; her husband; her brothers, Ed and Bud; her sisters, Jane and Ella; her brothers-in-law, Lloyd, Anton, and Joe; sisters-in-law, Fannie, Dorothy, and June; and nephew, Tom. We give thanX to God for the prayers offered up for her and us, and to the truly wonderful “Care” she received from the Oxford EMS; UW Med-Flight; Dr.’s Hobbins, Valentine, Smith, Bigelow, Meyers, Campbell, Ensminger, Narayan, and others; nurses, Angie, Becca, Brianne, Rebecca, and Jessie; and so many others. We especially give thanks to our gracious and merciful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who died for us, that we may live!!! A Celebration will be held at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1904 Winnebago Street, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, with the Rev. Susan Schneider presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, with lunch to follow at the church. Dear Debra, Sunni and Family: I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear Mother and Grandmother. Whenever I stopped by The Professional Garment Center your Mom always had a smile, some good words and always very professional! What a wonderful lady and oh how she loved her "grand babies", her grandchildren and/or her great grandchildren! Whenever I was in your shop I witness what a close-knit family you all are, it is wonderful to see that because I come from a close family like yours! I tried to leave a message at the shop but you voice-mail is full, no small wonder, I am sure there are many people whose lives your Mom (Grandmother) touched! She will be missed by our community and our sisterhood of breast cancer survivors! You have my condolence and you and your family members are in my prayers. Warm Regards, Karen Borley

A very special lady will be honored today. She is at peace, and all of us who cared about her will try to keep good thoughts of her with us, not sad. She had a wonderful life, helped so many people, and was loved in return. We will miss her, but she is with us....and in heaven with those loved ones who went before her. I hope my Dad John was close to the front of the line to give her a big hug! Love to you
