Obituary

WAUNAKEE- Rodney (Rod) W. Regel, age 59, of Waunakee, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 4th, 2011. Rod was born Aug. 22, 1952, in Appleton. He was the son of Leonard and Marian (Gorchals) Regel and grew up with his brother Randy and his sister Beth. Rod had two children, his son, Jon and his daughter, Kristal. Rod married the love of his life, Mary Larson Gunderson on March 9, 1991 at their home in Waunakee. Rod had a career that was connected to his passion – the outdoors and most recently worked for Orvis in Madison. Rod was an avid fisherman and loved fishing with his wife Mary, his close circle of friends, or just about anyone who wanted to fish at any time. Whether it was trout fishing throughout Wisconsin or for “bonefish” in the Bahamas , Rod loved connecting to the water and the outdoors. He loved hunting and over the years hunted all over this country and in Africa. He especially loved bird hunting with his black lab, Ellie. Rod was always there to help people. To teach them about the outdoors or to help a family member, friend, or neighbor in need. Rod, Mary and their dog Ellie were well known fixtures in their neighborhood and went on long walks with their neighborhood friends (both human and canine). Rod will be dearly missed by many people. He will be forever loved by his wife, Mary; Mary’s daughter, Christa and her husband Marc (Nadeau); and Mary and Rod’s grandchildren, Tucker (12), Chloe (10) and Fin (8) all of Big Fork, Montana. He will always be loved and missed by his son, Jon (Shanna) Regel of Wisconsin Dells; his granddaughter, Jailyn (7); his daughter, Kristal of Wisconsin Dells; his brother, Randy (Debra) of Madison; and his sister, Beth Foster (Larry) of Sun Prairie. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his faithful dog, Bear. A Celebration of Rod’s life will be held Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at the ORVIS STORE,1700 Deming Way, Greenway Station, Middleton, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. A memorial is being set up to help others discover or make their outdoor adventures possible. I was shocked to learn of the death of your husband, Rod. Such a loss defies understanding. Rod was a good man and his love for you showed whenever I would see the two of you together. As you know it was Rod who sold my son and I archery equipment, my son’s first bow, that has led to many enjoyable outdoor outings for us. It is a shame one as special as Rod must succumb so early in life. God bless.

Dear Mary, my heart breaks for you. As you know, we shared a similar wedding date. Yours lovingly continued all these years and it is a tragedy it has been interrupted to soon. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
