Theodore R. 'Ted' Thompson

MADISON- Theodore R. Thompson, age 86, died on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at Oakwood East. He was born on Jan. 4, 1925, in Madison, the son of T. C. and Mabel (Sorenson) Thompson. Ted graduated from Frank Allis School and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1941, near the start of his second year at East High. Ted served with the Marines in the Pacific from October, 1942, until July, 1945, including actions at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. He was called back into service during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage with Annabeth Jane Odegaard on Aug. 2, 1950. They were married for 58 years before his loving wife, Jane, died in 2009. They returned to the Madison area about 12 years ago. He was a builder for many years, first in Madison, and from the early 1970’s in Florida. When the Plymouth Congregational Church was heavily damaged by fire in the late 1960’s Ted’s company did the restoration. He is the youngest of four brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, Earl, Richard and Rudolph. He made friends easily, was scrupulously honest and conscientious about quality. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011.
