Obituary
MADISON-John Alfred “Jack” Strong, age 75, passed away on Monday, Dec. 19, 2011. He was born on June 15, 1936, in Lansing, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Minerva (Larson) Strong. He married Ruth Howland on Dec. 21, 1963, in Lansing, Iowa. He graduated from Lansing High School and LaCrosse Technical College. After college, Jack worked at Spence McCord, which became General Medical. He worked at Hydrite Chemical in Cottage Grove from 1975 until his retirement in 2001. Jack was a Deacon and usher at Christ Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed wood carving, was a den leader for cub scouts, but most especially enjoyed being around his family. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ruth; sons, Daniel (Marci) and Donald (Heather); grandchildren, Samantha, Bethany, Braedon, and Dane; sister, Wanda (John) Hisel; and he also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, David; and his parents. A memorial service will be held at CHRIST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 944 E. Gorham St., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Memorials may be made to American Lung Association or American Cancer Society. “Jack taught us many things throughout his rich life. Most importantly, how to love and how important family is. He told us he loved us and we also knew through his actions. Jack loved his grandkids with all of his heart and always said they were “ the apple of his eye.” Thank you so much, Dad (Jack) for how you loved. We will miss you so much.”
Cemetery:
Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to American Lung Association or American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
A memorial service will be held at CHRIST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 944 E. Gorham St., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011.

I am very sorry for your loss. I worked with John several years ago and I don't think I ever met a kinder, more gentle man. He was always willing to help.
He is certainly a man who made the world a better place. Wishing you peace and strength at this sad time.

Being a brother in law to Jack I have known him all my life. I don't think I ever remember a harsh word ever being said. He truly was a kind wonderful man. I will always miss him.
