John E. 'Jack' Platts

MADISON-John E. “Jack” Platts, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, in Madison. He was born on March 22, 1928, in Nekoosa, the son of Thomas and Ida (Christensen) Platts. He married Betty Radike in Wisconsin Rapids, in 1951, who preceded him in death in 1971. He later married Janet Olson, who preceded him in death in 1998. Jack graduated from Nekoosa High School, where he enjoyed participating in sports. After attending UW-Stevens Point, he served in U.S. Army during the Korean war. Jack worked for Kayser Ford for many years selling trucks, retiring in 1988. He won top sales awards and appeared in Time magazine for his accomplishments. Jack loved golfing, traveling, and was an avid Badgers fan. He is survived by his children, Thomas (Patricia) Platts of Dallas, Texas, Barbara (Michael) Monson of Monona, Stephen (Jayne) Platts of Cross Plains, and William (Jacinda) Platts of Madison; grandchildren, John, Molly, Annie, and Stevie Platts, Sarah and Jared Melo, and Rylee Tollefson; and great-grandchild, Gianna Melo. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Grode. Memorial services will be held at LAKE EDGE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4200 Buckeye Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, with the Rev. Lex Liberatore presiding. Private burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare or Alzheimer’s Association. The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Place and Agrace HospiceCare for their care and compassion.
