Obituary

DENISON, TX/MADISON-Rita Louise (Jorstad) Gundlach passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at home surrounded by family after a battle with cancer. She was born on Feb. 28, 1943, in Madison, the daughter of Arne and Mary (Grignano) Jorstad. Rita graduated from Madison East High School and UW-Whitewater and earned a Master of Library Science Degree from the University of North Texas. She was an educator in Madison and Brookfield. She was a dedicated teacher and librarian in Sherman and Denison, Texas. Rita was a member of the Denison Service League and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Denison, Texas. Rita married James Gundlach on June 5, 1965, in Madison and had three children, Jacqueline, Kristin, and Scott. They later moved to Denison, Texas in 1976. Rita is survived by her mother, Mary Jorstad of Middleton, ; husband of 46 years, Jim Gundlach of Denison; daughter, Jacqueline (Wayne) Green of Trophy Club, Texas; son, Scott (Steffany) Gundlach of O’Fallon, Ill.; sister, Lucille (Michael) Werlein of Verona; brother-in-law, Richard (Margit) Gundlach of Madison; five grandchildren, Ashley, Julia and Cale Gundlach, and Jesse and Jamie Green; Rita is also survived by four nephews and three nieces and their families. She was preceded in death by her father, Arne Jorstad; daughter, Kristin Gundlach; and brother, Robert Jorstad. Funeral Mass will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Avenue, Madison, at at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Texas Oncology and Grayson Home Hospice both of Sherman, Texas for their professional, personal and passionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Home Hospice of Grayson County, P. O. Box 2306 Sherman, TX 75091-2306 or a charity of their choice. She was loved and she will be missed by many. However, please remember: Just because a ship sails over the horizon, that doesn’t mean it is not there. Dear Lucy ad Mike, I am terribly for our loss. Hopefully you will remember me. Sat next to Lucy in purchasing only 30 years ago. I am glad you two are still together. And if I can still remember, you were close to everyone in your family. Will remember you always!
