Obituary

Madison/Sun Prairie-Gerald R. “Jerry” McCloskey, age 71, of Madison, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012, at his home. Jerry was born on Nov. 17, 1940, in Sun Prairie, the son of Dan and Helen (Endres) McCloskey. He graduated from Sun Prairie High School and served in the U.S. Army in Alaska from 1958 until 1961. Jerry married Bonnie (Roe) Morrow on Aug. 26, 1967. He worked at National Guardian Life Insurance Company for more than 35 years, retiring in 2000. Jerry was also a bartender at the Cosmo Club and Twilight Lounge. An avid sportsman, he liked hunting, but fishing was his favorite activity. Jerry participated in shooting pool, horseshoes, softball, trap shooting, and was a great bowler, having achieved a 300 game. He liked country music and socializing at the Country Corners bar. Jerry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bonnie; stepdaughters, Tracie Sherman (Jim McEuin), and Wendy Kerr; brother, Kenneth McCloskey; sister-in-law, Mary McCloskey; brother-in-law, Terry (Ellen) Roe; sister-in-law, Sally (Charles) Greenwich; brother-in-law, Bill Henning; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and Robert; and sister-in-law, Robin Henning. Per Jerry’s request, he will be cremated and there will be no formal funeral service. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, or the charity of your choice. The family thanks Dr. Cal Bruce for his many years of health care, Agrace HospiceCare, especially Kristin, Ann, and Melissa, and the support of family and friends during his illness.
