Obituary

MADISON-Lillian Alice (Braue) Swinburne, a faith-filled, loving, generous, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who longed for the coming of Jesus, died at 9:36 a.m. on June 29, 2012. She was 87 years old. She was the true love of her husband’s life for 63 wedded years. Although in poor health for a number of years, Lillian was well cared for at home by her husband, John. Lillian was born at home in Lewiston Township near Briggsville, on July 22, 1924. She attended country school through eighth grade and graduated from Portage High School in 1941. After high school, she moved to Madison to attend Madison Business College. After completing her college program, she worked for the Department of Agriculture in the Wisconsin State Capitol Building. During her young adult years, Lillian was proud to be a published poet. On October 23, 1948, she married John E. Swinburne from Delhi, Iowa. The wedding took place at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewiston Township, WI. After serving in World War II, John had made his way to Madison where the couple first met at a dance. After the wedding, the couple resided in Madison where John was an insurance salesman and later, a real estate broker. Most of Lillian’s adult life was spent in homemaking and the rearing of their seven children. She was considered by some to be “ahead of her time” when it came to making nutritional, health, and environmental choices for her family. Her life centered on family activities and celebrations. She was also involved with the activities of her church (Evangel Life Center, Madison) and her Bible study when she was physically able. She wanted the whole world, and especially those in her sphere of influence, to come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. Lillian enjoyed keeping up with the latest news, especially the political news of the day. Until recent years, she wrote many letters to state and national representatives to share her point of view. She was very well-read on many topics, but especially enjoyed reading about history, as well as biographies and autobiographies. In later years, she also liked reading about heaven and life-after-death experiences. Lillian is survived by her husband, John E. Swinburne; sisters Shirley A. (Braue) Stoll and Arlene H. (Braue) Heck; children, Faith Swinburne, David (Lynn) Swinburne, Roseanne (Mike) Sanderfoot, Janine (Dave) Harris, Annette (Jeff) Wiemann, and Dawn Koeshall; grandchildren, Holly Swinburne Clemente (Noe), Alissa Swinburne, Charissa Wiemann Jakusz (Nick), Sheree Wiemann, Makenzie Koeshall, Hunter Koeshall; great -grandchildren, Uriah Noe Clemente, Keyli Antonia Clemente, Aislynn Hadassah Clemente, and Matthias David Clemente. Lillian is also survived by a variety of cousins, nieces, nephews and grand- nieces and nephews. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Charles L. Braue (1897-1969) and Alma E. L. (Seiler) Braue (1900-1985); as well as a son, Stephen Grant Swinburne (1964-2003). Funeral services will be held at EVANGEL LIFE CENTER, 4402 Femrite Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, with a luncheon to follow. A dear sweet saint has gone home. I can almost picture Jesus receiving her and the smile on His face that his sweet daughter is home. I missed seeing Lillian in the past few years--- I can still her hear exclaim, Hallelujah while Pastor preached. Our prayers go out to John and their family-- no doubt she was loved dearly-- wish I could have gotten to know her even better. Dance sweetly with your KING!!!!! Richard and Sharyl LaBelle

(Psalms 34:18)- Jehovah is near to those that are broken at heart; And those who are crushed in spirit he saves. (John 5:28,29)- Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment. (Revelation 21:4) - And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
