Edith N. (Hansen) Brown

MADISON/LAKE MILLS-Edith N. Brown, age 96, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Oakwood Seasons. She was born on June 3, 1916, in Lake Mills, the daughter of Hans and Magdalena (Petersen) Hansen. Edith graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1933. On Oct. 10, 1934, she married George Homann and together they farmed in the Lake Mills area for 20 years, until his passing on Nov. 19, 1954. In 1958, Edith married Ben O. Brown, and lived in the Madison area for 54 years until Ben passed on March 5, 2012. She worked at American Family Insurance for 23 years until her retirement in 1981. Edith was a hardworking, kind, and understanding person. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and cooking. Edith is survived by her four step-children, Nancy (Jim) Capaul of Waunakee, Suzanne (Phil) Dixon of Las Vegas, Nev., Gary (Mary) Brown of Portage, and James (Teresa) Brown of Lodi; niece, Lillian (Neil) Wendt of Lake Mills; two great-nieces; and a great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; and two brothers, Axel Hansen and Robert Hansen. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, with the Rev. William Pekari presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakwood Foundation Inc., Staff Appreciation Fund, 6201 Mineral Point Road, Madison, WI, 53705.
