Dear Uncle Phil;
Brandon and I offer our sincerest condolences to you, Rod, Cindy, and Debbie. Aunt Betty will always be with us… in our hearts. One of the last times I communicated directly with her was on my birthday, which fell on Thanksgiving in 2009. In part, this is what she wrote to me that day.
Hi Ross,
Hope this email finds you well. Haven’t heard from you for ages.
Always thinking of you.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!
We had our first snow last night. The weather has been pretty good this fall. It wasn’t the best summer – a little on the cool side.
Phil, I, Aunt Doris went to California in September for Karin’s daughter’s wedding. It was in Malibu on top of a mountain. It was a very pretty wedding. We spent some time with Inge and then at Karin’s for a BBQ. She had our side and the grooms parents and a few friends. It was very nice.
I have been doing ok. My kids are coming for a 3 PM Thanksgiving dinner today. The hunters go out in the morning. Phil goes hunting but not today. He will go up to Rod’s this weekend again at New Lisbon near Mauston.
Got to run. Have a great Birthday. How is Brandon and what is he doing?
Love always,
Aunt Betty
When I later spoke to Aunt Betty, she filled in some of the other things that had been going on with her, such as her treatments and her hair coming back more slowly. It struck me immediately that with all that was going on in her life; she still found time through it all to think of me, and Brandon! That was typical of Aunt Betty though. She was a great and loving person and I’m glad she had a great and loving family like all of you.
Sincerely,
Ross Schultz

Dear Phil, Rod, Cindy, and Debbie,
I was the librarian at Sandburg during your years there. I have wonderful memories of you all and am sorry to learn of your loss. I liked very much your mother's friendliness and appreciated her involvement and support of her children's school.
My best wishes and condolences to you.

Phil, Rod, Deby and Cindy,
You all, and your extended family, are in my daily thoughts and prayers. I pray that you will find peace and comfort knowing that Betty/your mom is in a beautiful place and no longer in pain. I feel so fortunate to have experienced first hand what a kind and loving person she was. I have so many happy memories of time spent with your family and for that I thank all of you. I also pray that YOUR memories of her help you to always feel near and watched over by her. You all have a very special angel to watch over you now.
Love and hugs,
Sara

Dear Phil and family,
Shawn and I are very sorry for your loss. We are comforted to know that Betty is at peace and in a better place. I am so happy to have gotten to know Betty and spend multiple memorable times with her in WI and MN. I'm so glad that both of you were able to meet my parents too! I have especially fond memories of the time you were able to join us for our Food & Wine Club, and also when Betty co-starred (volunteered!?) in Miss R's show. Betty was the most popular gal in the place!
You are in our thoughts and prayers. Betty will be missed greatly.
With love, Scott (& Shawn)
