Obituary
MADISON- William Joseph Stagmer, age 68, of DeForest, passed away on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, peacefully at his home. He was born on Nov. 16, 1944, in Towson, Md., the son of Joseph Elmer and Marion Louise Stagmer. William was a successful retail executive and civic leader, serving on the Middleton Planning Commission and founder of the Elver Park Fireworks. Bill was also a devoted church volunteer and lector, passionate boater, and loving son, brother, and father. He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Stagmer of Menomonee Falls and Jenni (Casey) Poole of Fitchburg; sister, Louise (Bob) Kraus of Kona, Hawaii; brother, Charles (Debe) Stagmer of Freeland, Md.; and many other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial Mass will be held at SAINT OLAF CATHOLIC CHURCH, 623 Jefferson St., De Forest, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, with Father Robert Butz presiding. May he know he was always loved and be at peace in heaven.

I came to know Bill through the men's small group that was developed through the Church of the Nativity in Luther ville, MD. Bill was one of the most intellectually warm hearted men I have ever met and it was always wonderful to see the diversity that his insights brought to our group discussions. He was a thought provoking contributor that always kept us on our toes. Being a member of the military, I moved away from Maryland before Bill had moved to WI, and Bill was right there helping me pack with the volunteering and giving heart that he so often displayed. Unfortunately, that was the last time that I had any personal direct contact with him. The group kept me on the Cc.. line for all the weekly meeting messages, but I rarely chimed in. Although I did not keep up with corresponding, it was truly a blessing to have known Bill as a great friend in Christ. May peace be with his soul and with you all.
