MIDDLETON-Gregory James “Greg” Motl passed away of interstitial lung disease at Meriter Hospital in Madison on Monday, March 4th, a departure that occurred all too soon, but God had different plans and called him home. Although he has left a big hole in our lives, he will live in our hearts forever. We can all carry with us the wonderful times we spent with him and remember how he impacted our lives. He was born on April, 25, 1946, in Watertown, WI; and soon after, he and his parents moved to Madison. He attended Edgewood High School and St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN, where he played collegiate basketball. He served in the WI National Guard and was employed by the Department of Transportation where he worked until retirement. After that he enjoyed after retirement work for AECOM. On September 27, 1975, he married Roseann Friedl, and the best part of his life began. His family was the center of his life. He now leaves behind his wife Roseann; his children Randy (Sarah) of Mt. Horeb, Theran (Jessica) of Wauwatosa, and Nicole (Ross) McCoy of Milwaukee; his grandchildren Gwen, Addison, Amelia, Ben, Molly, and Eli; and his sister Susan (Carl) Grady of Middleton. He is also survived by his brother-in-laws, Phil & Russ Friedl and their families, many relatives and so many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Betty, who now welcome him home. It seemed as if Greg knew almost everyone. He was loved and admired by so many. Because he played sports in high school and college, that love carried over to his children and into the rest of his life. Whether he was at as many of his children’s athletic events as possible, attending Marquette basketball games, involving himself in fantasy sports, or hitting the links of numerous golf courses, he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Meriter for taking such good care of him during his last days. With Greg’s passing we come to understand even more how precious life is and that we must cherish every moment we have, which he did. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you do something special for someone dear to you. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Greg’s life will be held at ST. BERNARD’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave, Middleton at 11:00am on Friday, March 8, 2013 with Monsignor Douglas Dushack presiding. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm on Thursday March 7, 2013 at GUNDERSON FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton and also on Friday from 10:00am until the time of the services at the church. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton and also on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
