Stanley S.Klyve

MIDDLETON – Stanley S. Klyve, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2013. He was conceived in Norway, crossed the ocean and was born in Willmar, Minn. on May 20, 1924. He was baptized and spent his childhood in Willmar. His family moved to Aberdeen, S.D. where he attended Central High School, was confirmed and later ordained in the ministry in 1951 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Stan was a Veteran of WWII, flying in a B-17 as a tail gunner over Germany. Stanley attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen before transferring to St. Olaf College. He attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. Stan served as pastor at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison from 1951-1956, Trinity Lutheran Church in Stevens Point from 1956-1962, and Midvale Lutheran Church in Madison from 1962-1992. After retiring from being a full time pastor, Stan served as interim pastor at lakeview Lutheran Church, visitation pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church as well as visitation pastor six and one half years at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Middleton. During his ministry, Stan sent over 20 young people to the seminary. He conducted communion services at Attic Angels Place for over 25 years. Stan celebrated his 60th anniversary of ordination in 2011. He was a founding member of Madison Urban Ministry, Madison Area Lutheran Council Jail Ministry and Survivors of Suicide. He helped establish Meriter Hospital's group and alcohol counseling program. Stan also served on the Mental Health Board and Services and Kiwanis Club. Stan was a charter member of Torske Klubben. He loved traveling to Norway and his roots in Klyve, climbing Klyve Mt. several times. He led groups to various Lutheran Conferences and meetings worldwide. He participated in continuing education programs at Oxford, England and in the Caribbean. Stan loved music, nature, travel. Most of all he loved his family and little children. Stan is survived by his wife, Susan Gruber; children, Cynthia Lester, Charmian (Henry Plum, Claudia (Carolyn Grimm) Camilla, Candace Carrier and Corwin; and sisters, Clarice (Leonard) Linnell and Gertrude (Glen) Breitag. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Cordell in 1988; and son, Craig. Funeral services will be held at ADVENT LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7118 Old Sauk Rd., Madison, on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, from 5 p.m. Until 7 p.m. at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, and also from 10 a.m.until time of service on Wednesday.
