Obituary

RIVER FALLS/MADISON-Sherman L. Krauth, Jr. passed away on Apr. 16, 2013, at the age of 92, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on July 17, 1920, and grew up in River Falls. After high school, Sherman served his country during World War II with the U.S. Coast Guard and overseas with the U.S. Navy. Upon returning to River Falls, he attended the University where he met his future wife, Lois Swenson. Sherman and Lois were engaged two weeks after they started dating and they were married three weeks later on Nov. 1, 1946. Both Sherman and Lois became teachers and, after teaching in northern Wisconsin, moved to Madison where Sherman taught school and was a guidance counselor in the Madison Public Schools for over 35 years. Sherman thoroughly enjoyed his family and loved being involved in the lives of his children. Sherman and Lois enjoyed people and socializing with friends and, in their later years, frequently enjoyed bingo with a group of friends. They loved life and people and also loved and had a special place in their hearts for their dogs. One of Sherman’s fond memories was of times trout fishing with his father and knowing Governor Knowles since childhood. Sherman is survived by his loving wife, Lois; sons, Sherman III and Rodney; daughter-in-law, Julie Krauth; grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Hewitt, Megan, Karen, Lauren, and Nathan Krauth; and great grandchildren, Toby, Sophie, Henry, and Avelina. He was preceded in death by his third son, David (Julie). Private family services will be held at a later date. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Meriter Hospital and Agrace HospiceCare. We all love you Dad. You were the greatest and will be greatly missed. On-line condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. Private family services will be held at a later date.

I was a student of Mr.Kauth's at Cherokee when he first started teaching there and he quickly became one of my favorite teachers. My friend Nancy Gorsuch and I lived not far away: me on DeVolis Pkwy and Nancy on Britta Pkwy. and we used to walk all over the neighborhood during the summer months. It seemed so odd that a teacher was living in our neighborhood. My condolences to all of you. Mr. Kauth seemed like such a great guy.
