Obituary

Weidemann, Oscar W. Roxbury - Oscar W. Weidemann, age 98, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Waunakee Manor. The oldest of nine children, Oscar was born on Dec. 6, 1914 in Osterdock Iowa, to Henry A. and Erma Mae (Franks) Weidemann. The family moved to Cassville around 1920, and as Oscar got older, he worked at the canning company often hauling materials with horses and wagon across the Mississippi by ferry in the summer and the ice in winter. During the depression years, Oscar and a friend were hired on as farm hands in Sauk County. He met and married Vivian A. Guethlein in 1941 in Madison and raised their two children, Lloyd and Linda. Oscar and Vivian rented farms until about 1956 when they bought a farm near the village of Dane. Retiring in 1977, they sold the farm to their son Lloyd and moved to Roxbury. With farming in his blood, Oscar spent almost every day helping his son on the farm well past the age of 90. His passions were his family, farming, horses, and his farm dogs, which were known as “Trixie”. He also enjoyed hunting out west with his son and woodworking. Survivors include his daughter Linda (Tim) Martinson; grandchildren, Angel (Jason) Hodsdon, David (Karen Wagner) Hoerz, Melissa Martinson and Tory Martinson; his great-grandchildren, Jeromey Hodsdon and Trent Martinson; his brother Harold (Carmen); many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to Vivian, his wife of 57 years, he was preceded in death by his son Lloyd in 2011 and his brothers and sisters.
