Ronald J. Porter

MADISON -Ronald J. Porter passed away on May 8, 2013, with his family by his side. Born August 4, 1939, to Al and Helen (Armstrong) Porter, Ron lived in Madison all his life. Growing up in the 'Bush', he attended St. Joseph's School and Madison Central High. He had many close friends. Ron worked at Rohde's Steak House for 25 years. He loved his time at Rohde's and was the night chef there for many years. Known for the great job he did, other restaurant owners would go into the kitchen at Rohde's and try and talk him into working for them. Ron also enjoyed working at the Radisson for 20 years but always missed Rohde's. Ron loved to golf, play the slots, and really enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas. A huge lover of all animals he had many special dogs and one special cat over the years. Ron loved his family above all. Married to his high school sweetheart Sandy Knight for 52 years, they had two children, Ronald W. and Debra Ponty (Joel). His three granddaughters, Alicia, Megan and Melissa gave him many years of happiness. Ron's quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all that knew him. Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Shirley (Connery); Ron is survived by his wife; children; granddaughters; his brother, Bill Porter of Madison; and sisters, Beverly Fitzgerald of Madison and Jeanne Sigmon of El Paso, Texas. A celebration of life will be held at EASTSIDE CLUB, 3735 Monona Dr., Monona, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2013.
