Doris A. Hargis

MADISON,WI/DES MOINES, IA./FORT DODGE,IA.-Doris Hargis passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2013, at the Ridges Assisted Living in Lodi, Wisconsin. She is now pain free and with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Arlene Doris Taylor was born to Dalton and Anna Taylor (Wallestad) on a Norwegian homestead, 13 miles west of Fort Dodge, IA, on September 25, 1927. She was one of 11 children and had a twin brother. Doris was educated in a one-room school house, and after her schooling, she worked for Hormel Meats, Fort Dodge, in bacon packaging from 1944 until 1956. She married Richard Hargis on September 10, 1955, at the Fulton Lutheran Church in Moorland, IA. They moved to Dowell Farm south of Des Moines where she was a homemaker while Richard farmed until 1960. Richard then returned to his job at F.W. Means and they made multiple moves to Newton, IA in 1960, Sioux City, 1970, West Des Moines, 1972 and finally to Madison, WI in 1975. In 2009, they moved to Lodi to be near family. Doris is survived by her husband, Richard; her sons, Steven Hargis of Grapevine, TX; and Kevin Hargis (Heidi) of Lodi. In addition, Doris has five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. While in Madison, Doris was involved with Women’s Ministries at the Hope Lutheran Church in McFarland, WI. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and also enjoyed spending 15 years of winters in Fort Myers, FL with her husband, brothers, and sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister. The family wants to thank all of the Hospice staff for making Doris comfortable in her last days.
