BARR, STEVEN R.
MONONA-Steven R. Barr, age 58, of Monona, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014. He was born in Madison on November 8, 1955, the son of Norma (Meyer) and Arthur Barr. The love of his life was Lori Ring and they were planning to wed on her birthday in April. Steve graduated from East High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, the Badgers, Packers, and the outdoors. Steve was a self-employed businessman who loved working with his hands and was a master of all trades. He lived by his motto, “if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Steve was a great father, a family man, and friend of many who was full of life. He is survived by his fiancé, Lori Ring; son, Shaun; daughter, Sarah; Lori’s children, Chaz, Coddye and Chelsea; and his grandson, Tannar; mother, Norma; siblings, Bev (Gary “Jet”) Jackson, Art C. Barr, Jr.; and nieces, nephews and relatives. He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Carl; and Shaun and Sarah’s mother, Lori VanRoy-Barr. Funeral Services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, with Father John Silva presiding. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday. “We live for today and we plan for the future.” Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I am so very sorry for the loss of Steve! It has been such a blessing on my life to know him. In the short amount of time I knew Steve as a customer, he always made my day better. He never came in with anything bad to say, and always had a smile on his face even when the day may not have been going quite the way he would have liked. Anytime I saw him and Lori pull into the parking lot, I instantly got a smile on my face and anxiously waited to see what this trip would bring! It broke my heart to hear of his passing, and I send my sincerest condolences to the family.

Since 1975 Steve has been a close friend and sometimes employer, he remained a close friend even when I moved to AZ . He and Lori VanRoy-Barr came to visit for a trip to Mexico. A good friend is hard to find, and so many found a friend in Steve. Steve opinion was very valued by myself and my better half Yoshie. I was lucky to have been visited by Steve and Lori Ring on Tuesday while they were on one of their many excursions . Steve will truly be missed by Yoshie and myself !!

Dear Lori,
Our deepest condolences. Although we didn't know Steve, your facebook pictures paint the picture of a man full of life, who loved to dress up for a party or Badger game,his face held the look of fun and affection. There was a twinkle in his eyes, a man who looked at you with love.So many pictures of Steve with his arms around you and those he loved. We are so very sorry for your loss. We can only imagine the shock you must feel. We hold you in our thought and prayers. May you feel God's loving arms around you during this very sad and difficult time. Gentle hugs.
