Florence "Flossie" Caroline Griswold
September 23, 1920 - April 20, 2014
Obituary
MIDDLETON-Florence Caroline Griswold, “Flossie” as she was known to many of her longtime friends, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 at age 93. She was born on Sept. 23, 1920, to Clinton Dudley and Ada Richmond Griswold in the town of Hamilton. Florence grew up on the family dairy farm in West Salem and graduated from West Salem High School. She also graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Zoology, one of 12 family members to earn a UW-Madison degree. Florence was a medical technologist and laboratory coordinator at Madison General Hospital (now Meriter) for 40 years. She belonged to the Kappa Delta Sorority, Attic Angel Association, the Madison Civic Club, and the West Salem Presbyterian Church. She was a life member of the Wisconsin Alumni Association and the Memorial Union. Florence enjoyed a wonderful retirement, staying active until just before her death. She volunteered extensively and traveled to Europe, the Middle East, and Canada as well as throughout the United States. A Wisconsin season football ticket holder for over 40 years, her passion for Wisconsin and Packer football was surpassed only by her love of family, but not by much! Florence was featured in “Know Your Madisonian” and received the Rotary Senior Service Award in 2006.
Florence is survived by her three nephews, Clinton Richmond Griswold, Jr. of Baton Rouge, La., Raymond Griswold of Annandale, Va., and Ronald Griswold of Houston, Texas; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her only sibling, Clinton Richmond Griswold.
Florence will be laid to rest in the family cemetery plot in West Salem. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Attic Angel Association. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I was lucky enough to meet Flossie through a golf league many years ago. She was such fun and I will always remember her sense of humor. I was reconnected with her through family at Attic Angel and found that although many years had passed from our golfing days, Flossie was the same fun-loving and kind woman I had met on the golf course. I'm a better person for knowing her.

Flossie has been long time friend and co worker at Meriter. She hired both me and my wife back in the 60's and attended our retirement in the 2000's. She also attended our wedding in 1967. Throughout all those years Flossie was always so supportive of us. While at work she was always most professional but when out with the gang she really let her hair down. She would join us at the local watering hole and sing and dance along with the rest of us. Our friendship continued to the end and we would always look forward to our lunches to talk about "the good old days". Dick and Marty Nawratil

Flossie was a true light of my life. She brought joy to every task, project or event that she worked on at Attic Angel. She liked to have "busy hands" and relished getting everything done "in good order." When the work was done, she enjoyed outings to a new restaurant to sit and talk with friends. What a lovely and special lady!

Flossie Griswold was the truest example of an ANGEL on earth ! When she joined Attic Angels she was in her 70's, and many felt that she was too old to truly dedicate time and energy to being an Angel ! Dear sweet Flossie was on every possible committee known to man-kind, and every time
I turned around, there was Flossie in the thick of a new project or helping someone less fortunate to cope with a problem ! I have never known anyone as special and remarkable as Flossie ..............
and I feel so fortunate to have had her as a most treasured friend ! !

I can't tell you how much I'm going to miss this lady. Such a shock.
Badger game day is just not going to be the same without her.

Flossie Griswold and I graduated from the same high school in West Salem many years ago. Not only did I know Flossie, but also her parents Ada Maude and Clint. She was so much like her mother, -- in charge and speak her mind. I thoroughly enjoyed working with all the Attic Angel projects she undertook. I will truly miss seeing her, but I cherish many fond memories. Remember our trip to Milwaukee to help select a china pattern for the cafe!!
