Obituary
(Weathered) Kaisler, Marvis M. (Mullikin)
MIDDLETON-Marvis M. (Mullikin) (Weathered) Kaisler, age 85, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family, on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Attic Angel, after a long battle with lung cancer. Marvis was born to Alfred and Josephine Mullikin in Haney Township, rural Boscobel, in Crawford County, on Sept. 20, 1928. Marvis grew up with her six siblings on a farm without any of today’s modern facilities. She loved the rural life and enjoyed raising farm animals. One of her pleasures as a youth was to display her animals at the County Fair and 4-H meetings. At Boscobel High School, she played the clarinet and was a member of the marching band. In June of 1946, Marvis graduated second in her class, academically. In September 1946, with $100 she earned raising and selling chickens, she went to Madison and enrolled at the UW. She worked her way through college by working as a waitress at the Rennebohm Drug Store luncheon counter. Marvis graduated in June of 1950 with a degree in business and accounting. She and her girlfriend went to Chicago, where she began her long career as an accountant for the Inland Steel Company. Marvis had an interest in accounting all of her life. She earned her Certified Public Accounting degree in 1952 from the University of Illinois. DePaul University conferred a master’s degree upon her in accounting in 1960. She also worked as an accounting instructor at several technical colleges in the Chicago area. Marvis loved to travel and spent weeks and months traveling the United States, Central and South America and Europe. She married George Weathered on July 31, 1974, in Chicago. During that marriage, she lived in Des Plains, Ill. George died on Oct. 7, 1993. After his death, Marvis moved to Florida and lived at several locations, but primarily in the community called The Villages near Orlando. Marvis came to Madison in 2000 and moved to the All Saints Apartments in 2004. On June 21, 2008, she married George Kaisler and they lived at All Saints until the time of her death. She suffered many physical ailments during her life. Marvis overcame them, many times alone, with a tenacity that was characteristic. While Marvis was a very determined individual, she was also kind and loving and liked to reach out and help others. She enjoyed cooking and baking and prided herself on creating new recipes. Marvis is survived by her husband; George Kaisler; and George’s daughters, Carole (Mark) Schubring of Stoughton and Janet (Michael) Bates of Eagan, Minn.; George’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, Marvin (Sharon) Mullikin of South Range; her sister, Beatrice Keller of Verona; 26 nieces and nephews; and many of George Weathered’s children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, George Weathered; brother, Keith Mullikin and his wife, Irene; brother, Ken Mullikin (Lou) of La Valle; and sisters, Maxine Pfefferkorn (Jim) of Spring Green, and Helen Staskal (Glendon) of Boscobel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at ST. BERNARDS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton. Interment will be in Chicago the following day. Friends may gather at 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass to meet with family at the church. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to Agrace HospiceCare or Attic Angel Community. The family wishes to thank the staff of these institutions, especially Lisa Fargo, for the wonderful care they provided Marvis and her family during her last days. Our sincere condolences to both the Kaisler and Mullikin families for your loss of Marvis.
She was a nice lady, and will always have fond memories going to holiday dinners at Marvis and Dads, she was quite a cook.
