Obituary
MADISON-Donald Winkelman, age 76, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at his home. He was born on Jan. 8, 1938, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Milton and Lillian (Ausenhus) Winkelman. He married Judith Hansen on May 3, 1963, in Milwaukee. Don served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a great neighbor and story-teller, who never spoke negatively about anyone. Don was very gifted with his hands and could fix anything. He retired from Meriter Hospital after 35 years as an electrician and had friends throughout. Don and Judy enjoyed day trips around Wisconsin, especially when the grandchildren tagged along. He is survived by his children, Carol (Dan) Ellis and Duane (Laura) Winkelman; grandchildren, Megan (Jason Mikula) and Lyndsey Ellis and Ryan and Mackenzie Winkelman; great-granddaughter, Stella Grace Mikula; sister, Betty Winkelman; and sister-in-law, Ruth Winkelman. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother; Richard “Tex” Winkelman. A Memorial Gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. We are so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man. Don was a great person and and a wonderful neighbor. He was always willing to lend a hand. He will be missed but Heaven has a special Angel. Prayers go out to his family. Our Deepest Condolences, The Larson Family.

Don and I worked together at Meriter Hospital about 20 years ago. He was always smiling and willing to help in whatever way he could. Working with Don was always fun. He was a great guy.

Don and myself and my wife Marty all worked with Don at Meriter and Madison General Hosp. Some o0f my best memories are with Don at the first hospital picnic. Don helped with electricity and bartending and setting up and anything else he could do he would do. We shared many laughs during those events. At work he was called on countless times to solve some problem in the lab. A truly great guy and all who knew him will miss him. Dick Nawratil
