Obituary

Snyder, Robert (Bob) Clayton MADISON- Robert (Bob) Clayton Snyder passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, surrounded by his family at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. Bob was born on Dec. 31, 1934, in Decatur, Ill., the son of Raymond and Bonnie Snyder. He graduated from Ottawa, Ill. High School and attended Illinois State University in Southern Ill. where he met the love of his life, Marcine Wilkins, on Oct. 28, 1956. They raised 3 loving children. Bob was a manager of Piggly Wiggly Grocery Stores, starting out in Ill., which then brought him to Madison, Wis. where he was manager at Eagle Food Grocery Store. After 15 years in the grocery business he changed careers and worked for Hamilton Supply, and eventually Frank Liquor where he retired in 2000. Bob is survived by his wife, Marcine Snyder; daughters, Kathy (Dick) Hockett and Doreen (Kevin) Reilly; sister, Carolyn Sharp; sister-in-law, Midge Wilkins; grandsons, Kyle Reilly, Joshua, Mike and Paul Hockett; granddaughters, Kim Reilly and Kathryn (Jarred) White; great-granddaughter Jaydyn White; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Don; and his son, Jeff. Robert loved baseball, and even tried out for the Washington Senators and loved the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a big Chicago Bear fan and raised all 3 kids to be Bear fans. Bob was a hardworking man, you could tell by just looking at his hands, but he did enjoy his retirement traveling to Florida in their 5th wheel to escape cold Wisconsin winters. He loved working around the house and took a lot of pride in his yard work, and it showed. Bob was an amazing man. He was a wonderful husband, Dad, and Papa. He was liked and loved by all. One of the finest men you’ll ever meet. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014, with the Rev. Jerry Amstutz presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. We love you more than words can say, but this is not a goodbye, it’s Happy Trails until we meet again. A special thank you to Dr. Werstch, the extended Wildwood family, and Agrace HospiceCare for their amazing care and comfort. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family. Dear Marcine and Snyder Family, Just wanted to send our condolences and prayers for Bob. As it said in his obituary he was one of the nicest and friendliest men I have ever had the honor to meet and work with. Bob was always positive making the rougher times in the liquor business easier to handle. He will be truly missed and always remembered by his colleagues at Frank Liquor. We know he is sitting at the right hand of God. Our sympathies are with you. God bless, Ed and Karen Bosold

My condolences to all the Snyder family. I worked for Bob at Piggly Wiggly on Monona Drive and at Eagle on Milwaukee St. He promoted me to head cashier in the early 60's. Dearest Marcine & girls & families: So so very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was a true gentleman and kind to all. I remember him doing a few eulogies for family members and he always had the right words to say. I hope the person conducting his will be able to afford him the kind words he gave others. The family gatherings were always so much fun back in the day. Life takes us all in so many different directions, but when we got together we always could talk and talk never grasping for words but really talking and sharing. May God Bless that precious man and your family also as you go on without that Good man. Love & Hugs Linda (Lennon) and Joe Richardson
