Obituary
MADISON- Arthur W. Brockman, Jr., of Madison, Wis., passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of Oct. 17, 2014. He was born March 24, 1927, in Platteville, Wis., to parents, Arthur Brockman Sr. and Mayme (Mueller) Brockman. After graduating from high school he served in the U.S. Navy. Upon discharge he attended WIT (mining school) for three years which later merged into U.W. Platteville. In 1951 Arthur married Virginia Bullis of Mt. Horeb, Wis., who was attending what is now known as U.W. Platteville. Arthur and Virginia had four children namely, Kathleen (Dan) Kohlhagen, Marsha Tortorice (Jay Neu), Lori Hobbs and Dale Brockman. This in turn resulted in six grandchildren namely, Laura Kohlhagen, Derek (Jennifer) Kohlhagen, Michael (Heather) Tortorice, Gina Tortorice (Patrick Hills-Meyer), Jeremy Hobbs and David Hobbs. He subsequently had three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Tortorice, Payton Tortorice & Skyler Kohlhagen. Arthur retired in 1986 as a rural mail carrier from the Madison Wisconsin Post Office with 35 years of enjoyable, dedicated service. Post retirement he worked part time at Widen Enterprises which he also enjoyed. He is survived by all of his children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Noreen Severson of Black Earth Wis. Arthur was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Virginia; parents; infant brother, Dale; brother-in-law, Eugene Bullis; father-in-law, Lloyd Bullis; mother-in-law, Kathleen Bullis; and brother-in-law, Don Severson. Few, if any, would disagree that Arthur (Art) was an honest, hardworking and decent man who loved his family, friends and his life. Art was also known as one of the finest small mouth bass and walleye fishermen in the Madison area during the 60's and 70's and who knew the Madison lakes as well as anyone did. Often times he would lay his catch on the home lawn and the neighborhood kids would congregate with mouths dropping in amazement. He also enjoyed his regular Avenue Bar gathering of the “Platteville Boys” as well as his routine patronage of the Dairyland Restaurant on the east side of Madison with the many friends he had there. He will certainly be missed and never forgotten by all those who were fortunate to know him. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, with Pastor Joel Alberti officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. A private burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. Our family would like to convey our warmest thanks to all of the caregivers that so compassionately cared for our father in the last months and weeks of his life, because of you, he was able to come home where he so wanted to be. Special thanks to the staff at Oak Park Place, Agrace HospiceCare and Visiting Angels. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to the American Lung Association. Art will be missed in the neighborhood. Always enjoyed visiting and sharing stories with him. He had a fun sense of humor, words of wisdom in which the Wagner family will miss. God bless as you journey through each day.

Marsha, Mike and Gina - we send you our sympathies and wishes that many happy memories will help you get through this very sad time. Art would often stop and visit with Greg in his woodshed to kibitz about whatever was going on in the neighborhood or local politics. In earlier years, he would often stop by to show off his catch of the day. We were always impressed. Warm wishes to you and your families.
