MADISON- Valera "Val" Jopke, age 95, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct., 13, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare. Val was born on Aug. 27, 1919, in Wausau, Wis., to Otto and Bertha Goetsch. She spent her childhood in Wausau and then moved to Milwaukee where she met her husband, Frederick Jopke. They were united in marriage on Sept. 4, 1948. Val was a devoted homemaker and mother to her daughter, Nan. She moved to Madison following the death of her husband in 1980. During her years in Madison, Val enjoyed a full and active life. Val was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and active in her church circle. Throughout her life, Val was happiest while skating on an ice rink or playing a game of golf. Her greatest joys in life were her granddaughter, Sarah and her great-grandaughter, Kaimana. Val was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and her husband, Frederick. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Nan Peterson Olson (husband Michael), granddaughter, Sarah Peterson, great-granddaughter, Kaimana and Val's twin sister, Vila Borth of Wausau. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she deeply loved and cared about. Val is interred at Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee and a celebration of her life was held privately. Val's family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Russell Hermus of Dean Clinic for his care and guidance over the years, the staff of St. Mary’s 7th floor Neurological Unit and Agrace HospiceCare for their loving care and concern.
