SUN PRAIRIE/MADISON/BEETOWN-June A. (Gilbertson) (Wood) Slaght, age 86, passed away on Oct. 13, 2014, at St. Mary’s Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on June 29, 1928, in Bloomington, Wis., to Clyde and Ethel (Pollock) Wood. She married Grant H. Gilbertson on Sept. 4, 1946, in Madison. He passed away in 1960. She married Robert F. Slaght in Dubuque, Iowa on Oct. 2, 1971. He died Oct. 6, 1999. June went to East High School in Madison. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for many years and volunteered at the Colonial Club in Sun Prairie for 16 years. June loved playing bingo and cards on a regular basis. She also loved watching the Brewers play. June’s greatest love however was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Spending time with her family was what made her life complete. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie. June is survived by two daughters, Patricia “Lynne” Kinnaird of Deforest, and Gail (Ron) Thomas of Sun Prairie; daughter-in-law, Berta Gilbertson of Monona; step-children, Ronald (Jane) Slaght, Penny (Bill) Heberlein and Daniel (Debbie) Slaght; a sister, Joyce McGrane of St Paul, Minn.; a brother, Hulet Wood of Monona; eight grandchildren, Krisha Saley, Chris (Lynn) Thomas, Joseph Wissinger, Tammy Gilbertson, Kari (Derek) Thomas-Norton, Mathew (Liza) Thomas, Mark Gilbertson and Julie Gilbertson; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by both husbands, Grant Gilbertson and Robert F. Slaght; her parents, Clyde and Ethel Wood; five brothers, Burnell, Lyle, Gerald, Monroe and Joe Wood; a son, Gary Gilbertson; a son-in-law, James Kinnaird; brother-in-law, Dale McGrane; and two grandchildren, Grant and Eva Gilbertson. Funeral Services will be held at BETHLEHEM LUTHERAN CHURCH, 300 Broadway Dr., Sun Prairie, at noon, on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, with Pastors Charlie Brandt and Steven Vera officiating. Burial will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Madison. Friends and family may visit the church before the service from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. June was a wonderful example of strength and love as a wife, mother and grandmother. Her journey is now complete. She is in God’s hands with her loved ones in heaven.
