I remember having fun on the farm when we visited as kids, Loved learning and getting to drive a tractor. I remember one time I flew with Dan and Mary to Gurnee Illinois to help my parents move. It was a windy day, I think Mary and I were wanting to kiss the ground when we got back home. I gained a ton of respect for Dan that day, he really kept his cool and got us home safe. Jim Evans

Boys collect things like rocks, bits of string, a few marbles. Men collect things like old wire, broken tools, expecting to use such things in the future and be a tinkerer. Most men have to give up that part of their boyhood. Dan continued collecting and had the uncanny ability to be an able tinkerer. His abilities and knowledge came into valuable use during Boy Scout summer work weekends. He seemed able to fix anything. He was a very good Boy Scout leader. He greatly cared for the boys, especially those who really needed what Scouting had to offer. He was a Scout leader of the "Follow Me Boys" variety and ready to head off on adventure or community service at any time. Seemingly prepared for anything, a fix up project or helping with youth troubles, Dan was a good example to others, boys and adults. His smile, his energy, his love of Scouting, will be greatly missed around the campfire.

Dan and I officiated football together and he truly had a passion for the game. I will miss his leadership on those Saturday mornings as will many children through the Southside football program. He not only administered the rules but mentored the kids about the game.. He was as much of a coach on the field as off. My sincere condolences go out to his family.

I have known Dan for over 25 years, mostly as the Scoutmaster of the Troop of boys at Ed Bryant Scout Reservation summer camp, who didn't have a Troop of their own going that year. I remember that Dan always had the most interesting camp with gadgets and gear gathered together over years of Scouting. More recently, He also had a great knack for bringing boys to that camp from all walks of life, all areas of the Council, and from all circumstances imaginable, only to bring them together as a cohesive Troop, all by week's end. More recently, Dan came back to rescue our own Troop from dissolution, by offering to be the Scoutmaster when no others would or could. Dan was a very giving person, and although we didn't always agree, I always appreciated and respected his perspective, borne of years of Scouting experience well-beyond own. He gave of his experience, his opinion, his time, his talent and his treasure, more freely than most. My sincere condolences to Mary and their sons.. Tim LeBrun Boy Scout Troop 50 Oregon, WI

Worked for Dan and Mary in high school. Learned a lot about agriculture and scooping manure. Just this summer my daughter asked me why I knew how to make rabbit cages. I told her "there was this man named Dan..." Thanks Dan. My Prayers go out to Mary and the kids.
