Hazel Marie (Friedl) Imhoff

Imhoff, Hazel Marie (Friedl) MADISON/SUN PRAIRIE- Hazel Marie (Friedl) Imhoff, age 101, passed away Thursday morning, March 26, 2015, in Stoughton. She was born at home in Elroy, on Dec. 20, 1913, the daughter of Charles and Florence (Parker) Friedl. Hazel moved to Madison, and out of school began working for the State of Wisconsin at the Memorial Union and also tap dancing at the old Eastwood Theater before she met and married Harry Imhoff on Aug. 18, 1933. In addition to working for the University of Wisconsin Memorial Union, Hazel worked for University of Wisconsin Neurological Hospital as a nursing assistant and as a cook/chef for University of Wisconsin Residence Halls for a total of more than 20 years before retiring in 1976. After retirement, mom volunteered at Central Wisconsin Center for many years. Hazel is survived by her sister, Bertha Fowler of Tomah; and her children, Patricia (Marvin) Bakken, Marilyn (Roger) Gonzagowski, Thomas (Busaba) Imhoff and Mary Kay (Klaus) Koss. Hazel also leaves behind her grandchildren, Dean (Angela) Bakken, Gary (Kathy) Bakken, Kim (Gary Schneider), Kathy (Brian) Carlson, Kurt (Jacqueline) Bakken, Tim Gonzagowski, Ann (Cindi) Gonzagowski, Joseph (Heather) Gonzagowski, Angela (Michael) Gonzagowski-Heidenreich, Annie Imhoff, Shannon (Kara) Imhoff, Sheena Imhoff, and Adam Koss; three step-grandchildren, Christine Koss, Sheila (Kevin) Boodry and Sheri (Frank) Schneeberg; great-grandchildren, David (Lynne) Bakken, Amanda (Paul) Smyth, James Bakken, Joseph (Lauren) Bakken, Samantha Bakken (Eric Imker), Kurt and Kraig Mittelstadt, Brad, Sam, and Alex Carlson, Joshua and Jared Bakken, Andrenia (Morgan), Zoe Gonzagowski, Zalea, Morgan, Madysen and MacKenzy Gonzagowski, Rosalee, Hazel and Noel Heidenreich, Skyler and Anabel Imhoff, and Jordan and Alexis Ethun; five step-great-grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, RJ Preez; Tyler, Alexandra and Samantha Boodry; and two great-great-grandchildren, James Dean Bakken and Brynlee Bakken. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; grandchildren, Baby Youngs, Jennifer Youngs, Nicholas Koss and Paul Gonzagowski; great-grandchild, Aaron Carlson; a great-great-grandchild, Johnathan Smyth; siblings, Edna Miller, Floyd (Flip), Gifford, James, John, Russell, Robert, Norman, and Margaret Johnson; and a son-in-law, David Youngs. Hazel loved to dance and did so with a beautiful grace and beauty. She was known for her EXCELLENT cooking and LOVED to cook for her family. She enjoyed watching basketball and football especially when a grandchild was on the team. She enjoyed traveling to Arizona, Hawaii, Colorado, and most recently an RV trip at the age of 89 to Colorado. At 101 her stories were a treasure chest and she had the memory of those stories to the very end. Hazel’s mantra was “go with the flow”. From her kids and their spouses, grandkids and their spouses, great-grandkids and their spouses, all the way to great-great- grandkids, Hazel’s family always meant the world to her. There was a definite, mutual admiration demonstrated by the 200 plus family and friends that attended her 100th birthday party in 2013 and 101st birthday party in 2014. Hazel had a constant flow of visitors at her home. She was TRULY the most AWESOME woman ever. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Avenue, Madison, at 11:30 a.m., on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. A luncheon will follow the mass. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Madison. Hazel’s family wishes to thank the Home Health United Hospice team from Janesville, with special love to Rachel Schneider RN, Chaplain Bob Groth, Melissa Olson, Leah Coppola and Dawn Hermann. The family would also like to thank the very special, very caring individuals who were like family at Harmony in Stoughton, especially Teresa who is a caring, loving activities director who brought great music, concerts and joy. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family for a fund to be established. My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother.
