Obituary

MIDDLETON - Dorothy M. Goss died at the age of 96 on April 7, 2015 in Middleton, WI. She was born on October 11, 1918 in the Town of Marquette in Green Lake County, WI. Dorothy was the daughter of Frederick A. and Augusta E. (Harmel) Dahlke. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marquette, WI. Dorothy spent her childhood in the farmlands, overlooking Lake Puckaway. Dorothy was an excellent student, working to support herself, throughout high school in Kingston and Portage, WI. After graduating from high school, Dorothy made her way to Madison, WI, attending Madison Business College, for a brief time. City-life suited Dorothy very well. She loved Madison, living and working in a variety of settings around the city. During war-time, she joined the women, who rode 25 miles daily on the employee bus, to the Badger Army Ammunitions Plant in Sauk, WI. The plant was commonly referred to as “the powder plant.” Dorothy’s favorite job, however, was working as a bookkeeper at Uphoff’s Rotunda Restaurant and Motel in Wisconsin Dells. Dorothy married her long-time love, John Goss. John was U.S. Army veteran, blacksmith and master welder. They lived in Fort Atkinson and Middleton, and had a splendid life together, with their daughter, Gail. John and Dorothy loved to dance. The family enjoyed Special Olympic events, V.F.W. activities and vacation trips throughout the United States and Canada. Dorothy gardened, kept an impeccably clean house, enjoyed shopping on the Capitol Square and made the very most of family birthdays and holidays. She was happy to be member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, to witness its growth, throughout the last three decades. Dorothy appreciated the friendships and helpfulness of neighbors at Pheasant Branch. Dorothy is survived by her loving daughter Gail, favorite sister-in-law Millie Dahlke, niece and nephew Jackie (Pam) and John (Tammy) Dahlke, other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded into death by her husband, John, who died in 2003, her parents and brother, Donald Dahlke. Funeral Services will be held at ST. ANDREW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6815 Schneider Road, Middleton at 1 PM on Monday, April 13, 2015, with the Reverend Randy Hunter presiding. Burial will be held in Lakeview Cemetery, Fort Atkinson, WI. Visitation will be held on Monday from noon until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM) or Special Olympics Wisconsin. Dorothy will be deeply missed by her daughter Gail and niece Jackie…and by others, who appreciated her tell-it-like-it is sense of humor. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. My thoughts and prayers are with Gail and all of Dorothy's family. May God's love and faithfulness bring you comfort as you move forward knowing that Jesus' resurrection is proof of that love and proof that we too will rise and join Him in heaven. I'm grateful to have known Dorothy from a very young age when we were all members at Our Redeemer when it was located on Old Middleton Rd. Unknowingly, Dorothy had been serving as a wonderful role model for me and made my transition in 1993 to being the mother of a child with Down Syndrome much less scary. To me, Dorothy was the epitome of a strong Christian woman, wife and mother. ~ Kathleen (Kasdorf) Loose, Wauwatosa, WI

I would like to express my deepest sympathies to Gail and Dorothy's extended family. I had the privilege of coming to know Dorothy and Gail a bit over the last few years during our rides as a Middleton Outreach Ministry volunteer to the beauty parlor, doctor appointments, and other errands. I was always so impressed by Dorothy's inner strength, presence, and frankness, and I could see that she really loved Gail and the community of Middleton that has been her home for many years. Peace be with you all as you both mourn and celebrate Dorothy's life.
