Obituary
Schweiss, Norman L.
SUN PRAIRIE- L. Norman Schweiss, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, in his home. He was born on May 6, 1928, in Plain, Wis. Norm was united in marriage to the love of his life, Darlene Meier on Nov. 17, 1950. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Norm had a great love and passion for flying and had owned several planes throughout the course of his long life. At the mere age of 25; he took the great risk of starting his own business, and Norm's Mobile Home Sales was born in 1953. Through the combination of hard work, and a brilliant financial mind; this business became one of the most successful manufactured home sales businesses in the Midwest. By the late 1960's Norm had expanded to seven locations throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. But he didn't stop there. By the early 1970's he had expanded even greater by building, developing and managing communities for his mobile homes and throughout this process had acquired a great deal of real estate. His slogan for his sales business became "We'll Trade For Anything" and his empire blossomed. It was important to Norm that every person walking through his door felt as if they received their "dream home" no matter their "social status" and was very charitable to many. Through the years; some clients even traded cars as payment for the mobile homes. Norm saw this as an opportunity, and made the decision to also acquire his auto dealers' license. He took great pride in collecting automobiles - classic cars being his favorite. Norm loved being active on the water, throughout the years having large boats on Lake Winnebago and the Mississippi River, and enjoyed "making waves" with his speedboat on the Wisconsin lakes. He had been a member and past-president of the Monona Yacht Club. Norm and Darlene traveled worldwide, and enjoyed many cruises together. Together they were a dynamic, charismatic and wise couple who loved to entertain many with their fabulous cocktail parties. Norm was a vibrant, passionate man, who left an impact on all those whom he touched and will be sorely missed by all. He would fill a room with great laughter with the stories he would tell. Though devastated with the loss of his wife Darlene in 2010, Norm continued to live life to its' fullest and filled some of his time playing cards with his many friends. He was a compassionate, giving and very accomplished man. Norm is survived by his daughter Debora (Bryan) Schweiss Folz; grandchildren, Ryan Roscoe and Abigail, Allison and Oliver James Folz; and a sister-in-law, Shirley (Pogue) Gloe. In addition to Darlene, his wife of 60 years, he was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Schweiss; and sisters, Verda McDermott and Arlen Liegel. Private family services have been held.

Deb,Ryan and Family. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I have some fond memories of my Uncle, Norm, that go back a very long time. Norm use to visit and sometimes stay at my parents home before he started the mobile home business. He would drive up in a red or yellow convertible.. He and Darlene attended my grade and high school graduation parties. I also attended their wedding at St Bernard's Catholic Church on Atwood Ave. Norm and Darlene would sometimes show up at an event on Uncle Norm's motorcycle. They were quite the couple. I also remember watching the Badger's 1963 Rose Bowl Game on television at their home in Monona and having a ham dinner. While we were living in Neenah I remember meeting Norm and Darlene at the Pioneer Resort and Marina in Oshkosh and going for a ride on their boat. Our oldest son, Christopher, who was born in the spring went along for a ride during the summer of 1966.
