Leillian "Lee" (Nealey) Cummings

LODI-Leillian Nealey Cummings, age 97, died peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at The Ridges of Lodi. Leillian and her twin sister, Lillian, were born on Sept. 29, 1917, in Richland Center and were adopted by Elwood and Fanny Burtch Nealy of Baraboo. The family moved to Madison where Lee and her siblings grew up. Lee married Howard ricky in 1938, and had one daughter, Diane. In 1948, she married John C. Cummings of Madison. They were married for almost 60 years, living in the Eastmorland neighborhood. For most of her life, Lee was a homemaker, but worked for 17 years at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home. She and John enjoyed baseball, cheering on the Braves and then the Brewers, gardening and spending time with family. Lee is survived by her children; Diane (Greg) Curwen, Cheryl (Tom) Bumgarner and Michael (Cindy) Cummings; grandchildren, Scott Showers (Julie Johnson), Jodelle (Mike) McBee, Todd (Shari) Showers, Laurie (Larry) Geary and Stacey (Travis) Martin; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Megan, Mallory, Rachel, Sydney and Nick Showers, Lexis Geary and Adeline Martin; two great-great-grandchildren, Dakota and Lorelei; twin sister, Lillian Rickey; sisters, Adelaide Halsey and Ruth Sharley; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; great-grandson, David Horne; son-in-law, Delmer Showers; and siblings, Elwood and Victorine Nealey and Ineas Banker. Lee was lovingly cared for by the staff of The Ridges of Lodi for the past five years. These special people kept her safe, comfortable and happy. She enjoyed them immensely. Heartland Hospice was a great comfort over the past year and eased her passing, for which her family was very grateful. Services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, with the Reverend David Brynelson of Heartland Hospice officiating.
