Obituary

MADISON-Zyaire Da'jun Nichols "Zy", age 9 years, of Madison passed away on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on Aug. 15, 2006, in Madison, the son of Gerald Nichols and Michelle Davis. Zy was a 4th grade student at Kennedy Elementary School in Madison. He was a sweet, loving child who always wanted you to feel welcomed. Although he accepted his fate as a "Cancer Kid", what he wanted most was better cancer treatments for kids. He was a child who was most concerned about others. As Zy fought his battle with cancer, stage 2 glioma astrocytoma since 2012, he loved playing video games, reading, and being with family and friends. Zy is survived by his parents; brothers and sisters, Brianna Nichols, Cameron Travis, Jaylan Travis, and Nikyah Travis, Ja-whun Malone, Gerald Jr. Nichols, Aaliyah Nichols, Alicia Nichols; maternal grandparents, Sandra White and Bertron Davis; paternal grandmother, Corine Brice; great-grandmother, Corine Nichols; aunts, Tennille Davis and Narvaree Copeland; and uncle, Marcus White. Zyaire leaves his precious memories to his favorite cousins, Tequitia, Curtis, Tiana, Nyah, Armando, Areion, Amonya, Antoine, Byram, Amiaha, Maliyah, Chello, Ja'leonna, Ja'marion and a host of great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, David Hargrove. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, and from 12 noon until the time of the service on Monday. To my superhero: You were more than a son. You were my best friend. You were the light that shined through my heart. They way you loved life and showed love to others were amazing. Sing me a song, baby, and save me a front row seat! I'm your biggest fan! Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. Gunderson East Funeral & Cremation Care 5203 Monona Drive (608)221-5420

My heart aches for you Gerald and Michelle and family. Your son has been a bright light at Kennedy Elementary School, illuminating peace, love, and understanding. He was a model of being at peace with himself and life's challenges, showed love and care to all around him, and had a deep (soulful) understanding of what was truly important in life. And he shared this each day, with a big smile and a little kick in his feet (he sure loved to dance!)! I will always remember him and all that he taught me. May you find your own peace through your wonderful memories.

You do not know me, but I heard about your loss on the news, I too had a loss, I lost my 18year old niece in a car accident in Aug last year. She too for some odd reason did not have her seat belt on. I know they say that time will heal the pain, and I am sure that it will, but the only thing I can say is keep that Faith you spoke about on channel 3 news, know that through this terrible ordeal that God is there for you and will help to carry you through. I too will remember your son, and I too will keep praying for him, and will rejoice that he will no longer have pain from the cancer. No family should ever have to go through this. God Bless you and all of your family in this terrible time of need. Jim & Rhonda L, Muscoda, WI
