MADISON-Sandra "Sandy" (Knight) Porter, a lifelong resident of Madison, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016. She was born in Madison, the daughter of Leroy "Pokey" and Ruth "Bobby" (Hessler) Knight. She married the love of her life, Ron Porter, on Feb. 11, 1961. They had a son, Ron, and a daughter, Debbie. Ron and Sandy were married 52 years when Ron passed away in May, 2013. They were very proud of their children for working hard, and being great parents to their children, Alicia, Megan and Melissa. Sandy and Ron fiercely loved animals and had many special dogs and one special cat throughout the years. They would have had many more if it were possible. Sandy was blessed with wonderful friends, some from when she was a teenager and others from the 25 years she worked at American Family Insurance. She loved to gamble and went to many casinos in Wisconsin, Las Vegas and Tunica. She would also enjoy going to the casinos up north when they went every July with friends and family. Her passion in life was to travel. Sandy dreamed of being a flight attendant as a teenager, so that she could travel all over, but she was too short. Because she didn't start traveling until her children were older, she never made it to Africa and some other countries she wanted to see. However, she DID make it to more than 30 states, her favorite was Alaska, and she made it there twice. Since Ron was a chef, her dad a cook in the U.S. Army, and her mother an excellent cook, it's no wonder Sandy loved to cook! She catered about five weddings and always loved to cook for family and friends. Sandy is survived by her children, Ron Porter and Debbie (Joel) Ponty; grandchildren, Alicia, Megan and Melissa; sister, Connie (George) Karls; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ron; and niece, Shaina Davenport. A Celebration of Sandy's Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Dane County Humane Society and other animal charities. "We will miss you mom/grandma, but are glad you get to celebrate Christmas with dad/grandpa." Deb, Ron and families I am so sorry to get the news of Sandy's passing. She was a good friend, a wonderful caring and loving person. She loved you all so much and I know how much she missed your Dad. She will get to spend Christmas with him this year and they will both be healthy and happy. We always had so much fun at the steak feeds and gambling the bunch of us. I have many fond memories of these times spent with her. My deepest sympathy to you all. I will be praying that God will help you get thru the holidays without her.
