MIDDLETON - Dr.Dusan Jovanovic, age 89, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Ingleside Manor after a long illness. He was born on October 10, 1927, the eldest son of Dragoljub and Mileva Jovanovic in Macina, Yugoslavia. He was united in marriage to Dr. Ljubica Antula Jovanovic on June 30, 1957 in Belgrade. Dusan graduated from the University of Belgrade and joined their faculty in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He also headed that Department at the hospital in Uzice. The family immigrated to Germany where he was a surgeon at the hospital in Limburg an der Lahn. After immigrating to the U.S. he completed his internship at Newport Hospital in Newport, Rhode Island, and his residency at the University of Chicago Lying-In Hospital. He joined the faculty there, and held medical licenses in Wisconsin, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Indiana. He was a contributor to the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and authored scholarly articles for several international journals as well. The green hills, lush forests, and rivers of southwestern Wisconsin reminded him of his beautiful homeland and the family settled in the Madison area where Dr. J. joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin, later opening his own practice. He was one of the first physicians in the state to employ an ultrasound. Dr. J., beloved father, grandfather, father-in-law, and friend to so many, leaves behind his daughter Svetlana (Guy) Taylor, and two most beloved and cherished grandsons, the loves of his life: Christopher and Alexander, as well as brother Bozidar and sisters, Dana, Javorka, and Mara. He was preceded in death by his wife Ljubica, parents Dragoljub and Mileva, grandparents Aleksandar and Gisdava, and brothers Djoka and Petar. Funeral Liturgy will be held at ASSUMPTION GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 11 North 7th St, Madison, at 11:30 am on Thursday January 12, 2017, with Father Michael Vanderhoef and Otac Rade Cutilo presiding. The family wishes to give many grateful thanks to the incomparable Pat Lohr, Pam Mueller, Jackie Alderson, Cindy Kersten, and the entire wonderful and encouraging and compassionate staff at Ingleside Manor. Many thanks also to Agrace Hospice, Carey, Elizabeth, and most especially Father Timothy Jones whose many visits and prayers sustained us all. We also thank Father Michael of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church so very much for giving last rites and prayers, and communion to Dr. J., and our dear friend, Keri Rollings for all her love and support.
