Richard Lee Nelson

Richard Lee Nelson was born on August 9th, 1952, in Madison WI and passed on January 28th, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford IL. He was welcomed into this world by his parents, Henry R. Nelson and Amelia Ann (Thompson) Nelson, and his sister Deb.  His father preceded him in death in 1989. He is survived by three loving sisters: Deborah Nelson (Tim Garber) Julie Larsen (James Larsen), and Joni Nelson (Charles Firth), and six beloved nephews: Sam and Ezra Garber, Ben Larsen, Henry, Max and Willy Firth as well as many cousins and friends.  Richard lived his early years in Lodi, near his treasured grandparents, surrounded by ponies, dogs and cats. He received his education in schools throughout the country.  Rick often returned to Lodi throughout his life and while living there as a young adult enjoyed climbing Gibraltar and hiking at Devils Lake. He was an artist and great appreciator of music, film, travel and nature. A great lover of animals, Richard cared for all creatures; his dogs, cattle, horses, and the cats that survive him. Richard lived with and cared for his mother, during the final years of their lives. He was loved by those who knew him for his wit, intelligence, awareness, sensitivity, and kindness. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, February 11 at the First Lutheran Church of Lodi.
