Obituary
MONTELLO-Ron Jacob, age 74, of Montello, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2018. He was a proud UW Madison Alumnus and loved more than anything spending time at Badger football and men’s and women’s hockey games with friends and family. Gopher and Bears fans knew to expect a call after a Badgers or Packers win, and to be the target of his jokes and banter. He also enjoyed decades with his family at Tuttle Lake, and hunting on the 40. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Ron is survived by his children, Michelle, Michael (Getch) and Jason (Liz); step-children, Grant and Jill (Nicholas); grandchildren, Marc (Ashlee), Kaylene, Kyle, Corey and Sarah; great-grandson, Lucas; siblings, Linda (Bill) and Tom (Sharon); nieces, Julie (Jivko) and Lisa (Parish) and their families; the Wellensteins; and his furry companion, Shay. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Dorthy. A private fish fry celebration in his honor will be held at JEFF’S RIVERS EDGE, Montello, on Friday, March 23, 2018. Additional friends are welcome to join the celebration beginning at 7 p.m. Please wear your red or green and gold, you know he would not want to see anything else. Ron was a strong supporter of the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department’s K9 Unit, often donating a pair of his prized Badger hockey tickets to their annual raffle. In lieu of flowers or other memorials, please consider making a donation to the K9 Fund in Ron’s name. Checks may be sent to: Marquette County Crimestoppers, Attn: K9 Fund, 67 West Park St., Montello, WI 53949. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I always knew in college when the phone rang after a Bulldog vs Badger game it was you calling from the car phone to give me a hard time. Those were some rough years being a Vikings fan and your daughter in law too, but I knew you picked on me because you loved me. Thanks for all the hockey games. RIP Ron and On Wisconsin! Love always - Getch

Papa, you taught me many lessons growing up on all aspects of life, some/most of those lessons you made me learn the hard way but they are lessons I will never forget. Everything from making me untie hundreds of knots in the ski rope and teaching me the proper way to wrap up and store a rope, to the proper ways to split firewood and how to start and maintain a good hot fire in the fireplace, and just about everything inbetween. I will miss the weekly phone calls during football season to discuss the badgers and packers and you asking for an update on MN fans and thier misery, also will miss your random phone calls at all hours of the day/night cuz you just heard a new gophers/vikings joke. Papa, you helped raise and shape me into the man I am today, teaching me to love and support your family, work hard in every part of life, and most importantly cheer for Bucky no matter what! RIP Papa, I promise I will keep a list of MN jokes to share with you sometime again! Love You

My husband, Joe Kreis, and Ron worked together for years and became very good friends. Ron has kept in touch with Joe every since. Because of Joe's health issues, Joe did not like to talk on the phone and so Ron would call me instead. Our conversations were always long and so I would take notes to relay them to Joe. Ron's phone calls usually revolved around his wonderful kids, his dog, the Badgers, the latest scoop on "the old gang," and Kwik Trip. Our last conversation was after he moved to Madison and he told us about how much he liked it there. He said he was on the first floor and was able to take his dog and tie her outside his patio door. Joe and I figured that one of the other reasons that he liked it there was he had an entirely new audience to talk with. HA... He was an intelligent, kind, down-to-earth, good human being. To illustrate what a wonderful person he was I will take you back to 2011. My husband had a terrible health crisis in Fort Myers Beach, Florida while we were in our motorhome. I called Ron in Wisconsin and the very first words out of his mouth were: "Do you need me to fly down to Florida and drive that motorhome back to Wisconsin for you?" That says it all!
THE LORD IS LUCKY I CONTEND
FOR HE'S ON "THE RECEIVING END"
MAY RON REST IN PEACE AMEN

I'm sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of time spent at Tuttle Lake; sunning ourselves on the pontoon boat and playing cards at the picnic table. Ron always grilled a good meal for us at the end of the day. I think spreading some of his ashes on the lake is a fitting tribute to him. He'll be missed.
Sincerely, Ellen Schwantes (Jean's sister).
