CROSS PLAINS-Elvira P. (Zander) Sarbacker, age 91, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018, at Milestone Senior Living in Cross Plains. She was born on May 22, 1927, in Cross Plains, the daughter of Lorenz and Mary G. (Reisdorf) Zander. Elvira was united in marriage to Russell C. Sarbacker on June 18, 1949 in Cross Plains. She attended St. Francis Elementary School; Park High; Edgewood High School and Madison Business College. She was employed as secretary and treasurer for the Catholic Welfare Bureau, Milwaukee/Madison Diocese, Frank’s Market, Winter Silks and at Culver’s Cross Plains, where she was known as the "Sunshine Girl". She was also President of the Cross Plains/Madison Council of Catholic Women, American Legion Auxiliary and Dane County Homemakers. Elvira is survived by her children, Warren (Jeanne) Sarbacker, Sheila (Robert) Luhman, Lorin (Susan), June (David Weger), Rock (Cristin Jacque) and Noel (Barb Acker); son -in-law, Jacob Niesen; brother-in-law, Ronald Sarbacker and very dear nephew, Lorn "Skip" Zander. Elvira is further survived by her grandchildren, Kelsi and Ashley Sarbacker, Daniel (Meghan) Swanson, Krystal (Shaun Williams) Swanson, Steven and Kyle Sarbacker, Joshua (Michelle) Niesen, Janel (Matt) Christianson, Jennifer Niesen, Ruth, Rose and Rylie Sarbacker, and great-grandchildren, Philomena Williams, Serenity and Syaire Sarbacker, Hannah Scott, Hailey Niesen, Abigail and Lillian Christianson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Russell; her daughter, Lynne Niesen; brother, Neal (Judy) Zander; niece, Jill Zander; brother -in-law, Ralph Sarbacker; sister-in-law, Judy Sarbacker and her in-laws, Orlin (Charlotte) Sarbacker. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11 AM on Friday, June 8, 2018, with Father Thomas Kelley presiding. Burial will follow the Mass in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 PM to 7PM on Thursday, June 7, 2018 and also at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Milestone Senior Living, Agrace HospiceCare, Inc., Dr. Jarzemsky and all of Elvira’s caregivers for their loving care and support.
