MADISON-Jerome C. “Jerry” Stueber Sr., age 84, returned to his heavenly home on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, following a valiant battle with chronic illness and Alzheimer's disease.  Jerry was born on Nov. 8, 1933. He was a devoted and respectable husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Judy Drifka, on Sept. 10, 1954, in Stevens Point. They were blessed with a large and loving family and have 10 wonderful children. Jerry was a well-known musician and entertainer who was loved by many in the Madison area since 1973, when he moved his family from Schofield, Wis. to Madison to pursue his music career. He truly enjoyed entertaining people, and performing with his band, Jerry Stueber and the Versatiles at many local establishments until he went solo in the early 1980’s. Jerry took many musicians under his wing and he developed strong lifelong friendships with them and his dedicated followers. Jerry was a devoted father from the beginning and he proudly shared his musical talent with many of his kids. Jerry is survived by his wife Judy; ten children; Susan (Don) Arnold, Sari Schultz, Bryan Stueber, Sally (Rob) Rickerson, Diane (John) Cook, Bruce (Lisa) Stueber, Judy (Craig) Kulhanek, Jerry Stueber Jr., Paul (Tammi) Stueber, Ami Stueber; his two sisters, Betty Krupka and Yvonne Stueber; 17 Grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Jerry was a Madison favorite musician with a career spanning decades. He was not only a great musician but a great and kind father and grandfather. Devoted husband and kind heated friend. He will truly be missed by family, friends, acquaintances, and fans alike. may he rest in peace in the lords arms.

My deepest sympathy to his family. I knew Jerry back in the late 80's early 90's. What a genuine kind hearted person he was. RIP Jerry

I had the pleasure of meeting and singing with Jerry in the early 90's. His horn playing was a gift. I think of him often. I'm sorry for the families loss but know he is playing music in Heaven. Sue

My wife and I have very fond memories of Mr. Jerry Stueber. He played regularly at the Italian restaurant (Sole E Sapori) by our first house in Madison in the early 2000s. He had a smooth voice, and a friendly, relaxed demeanor when performing. We brought family and friends there to enjoy the atmosphere which was made special by Mr. Stueber and his talent. We will never forget him, as his music will always be part of the story of our lives. -Cory & Dana Newmann, Whitewater

We took our family to Nora’s restaurant for Friday fish fry and listened to Jerry play for years and years. He became a staple for our kids to being friends to see and later boyfriends as a tradition one Friday’s when they would return home from college. He will be greatly missed and forever be embedded in our children as one of their fondest memories.

I’m sorry I missed Jerry’s funeral – He was a one-of-a kind musician who supported a large family with his bands. Even though I missed his passing, I have the memory of him “sitting in” with the band I was playing with at the Essen House twice with his son and wife. That will stick in my mind forever.
