The Wittwers have many fond memories of our long time neighbors from the farm days, Don and Gertie. I especially remember trick- or- treating at her house. Gertie would often come to the door in a costume herself. A very lovely, kind-hearted woman. I'm glad that she and Don are reunited again.

We first met Gertie when we moved to Springdale Township in 1983. She was a warm, energetic, absolutely delightful fellow resident whose views on land use were very closely aligned with ours. She was truly a steward of the land. Her love of animals was also evident when our sheltie, Spice, decided to take a run away from home and we searched the entire township for her with fliers. Gertie always asked after she was found, if we are sure we're keeping her on her leash outside and she noted we must give her lots of yummy treats so she learned that our house was home. She and Don enjoyed Spice a lot when Connie Jo and Gary "babsat" for Spice when we traveled. A beautiful soul is gone from earth, but heaven has truly gained an angel. Have fun waltzing Gertie!

Thank you to Gertie for the wonderful family she created. I knew a bit of her story, but this really completed it. What a survivor. Love and prayers for all you beautiful people.
