Mary,
Ran across this today. I tried to find him at his last home about a month ago but went to the wrong one. I did know BJ and consider him a friend and neighbor. He was kind and fair in all his dealings, and I will miss him. You and he started my red raspberry patch with a starter donation from your patch, and I helped a friend start her rhubarb with your extra donation. I will bring you some asparagus whenever it wakes up this spring. The best to you, from Dan McMeen

Mary, unfortunately we have never met. "BJ" was a close friend back in our high school/college days. We spent hours playing basketball for St. Bernard's CYO team and at the UW. I lasted 1 day trying out for UW Basketball, but as you know BJ went further. Lots of hours on the courts of the Red Gym, Nat, and the Shell. Those were really special times. We both reached a point during college when we were declared 1A. to avoid the draft he chose the US Marine Reserves and I chose the Army Reserves. After his time at basic and upon return to the Madison campus he recognized the fallacy of Viet Nam. I will forever appreciate his dedication to his antiwar stance. My prayers are for you at this time of loss. One side note: BJ left a message on my phone (landline) 12-15 years ago that it would be good to get together and talk. Unfortunately he didn't leave a number and never called back. That was a major missed opportunity at reconnecting and I have thought about that many times. Be strong and God Bless! It is with the deepest of sadness that I was just told by a mutual friend of BJ's passing. I will cherish the hours we spent traipsing through the woods finding markers for my land listings. Our partnership on the development in Oregon and the times when his tremors hindered putting surveys in tubes.. I would stop in the office to help and give him a hard time about the messy office. So many memories that always have the gentle, kind BJ. He was the best. Jenny
