Our deepest Sympathies!
We first met Dan at my first tour of Dairyland research station in 1992. Dan was definitely passionate about his work and had a enlightening smile and laugh! We were at Madison for the Dairyland Geni meeting in 1993 for the press conference. Dan was recognized for developing the first herbicide soybeans (STS) for the Northern corn belt. Dan’s seed varieties are planted in the Dakotas nearly touching the Montana and Canada borders, where they are greatly appreciated by the farmers to help prosper their farms. Dan’s accomplishments in agriculture, go much further as they help sustain the farmers livelihood and feed and fuel the world!
We enjoyed many future Geni meetings and greatly enjoyed Dan’s friendship and enthusiasm!
Dan will be missed as friend and fellow DS employee!
Our thoughts and prayers to his family.

My sincere condolences to the Martinelli family. Dan's loss will be felt across great distance as he touched many peoples lives in the seed business. Over the past 15 years, I was lucky enough to have seasonally spent time working with Dan across the midwest and traveling to winter corn nurseries in Puerto Rico, Mexico and Chile. He was a creative, and accomplished corn breeder- and developed more commercial hybrids than most I've ever known. More importantly, Dan was a great person, when he smiled it seemed he could light up a room and most everyone in it. Thanks for the good memories.

I offer you my sympathy. I worked with Dan at Dairyland Seed on the STS project. i was in sales and Dan did a great job explaining to us in terms that we could or would understand. I will always remember when you went out to field with Dan, if you had any questions, he would try to answer them no matter how long it would take. If you wanted to know the answer and had the time he would answer it. I always enjoyed Dan at the meetings and had the greatest respect for him as a person and as a plant breeder. He was very gifted in both areas. Our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends . Sincerely, Gary Freiburger
