FALL RIVER – Joseph John Spataro Sr., age 84, was called home from the Meadows of Fall River, Fall River, Wis., on Friday evening, January 24, 2020, after a battle with cancer. Born August 11, 1935 to Gabriel and Margaret (Vultaggio) Spataro, Joe grew up in the Greenbush neighborhood of Madison, graduating from Central High School in 1953. Joe served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning from Germany, Joe married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Sue Swadley on June 26, 1962.
Joe loved the hospitality industry, owning and working for many different bars and supper clubs in the Madison area. He also was a good salesman and loved meeting people and selling into his later years. Joe was an avid golfer, loved to fish and bowl.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel Spataro and Margaret Bierman, both of Madison; his half-brother, Tony Plescia Sr. of Sauk City, and his sister, Rose (Lloyd) Stein of Madison.
He is survived by his sister, Georgia (Jerry) Brassard of Sun Prairie; his sons, Joseph (Jean) Spataro Jr. of Lodi, Victor Spataro of Madison, and Paul (Christine) Spataro of Pardeeville; his adopted children, Deb Hein, Rita Rahn (deceased), James Spataro, and Cheryl Spataro, all of Madison; as well as many nieces and nephews.
