Obituary
OREGON – Rose M. Gammeter (nee – Pfister), age 89, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Sept. 29, 1930, in Milwaukee, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Lischeron) Pfister. Rose graduated from Barneveld High School in 1948 and attended St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing until she was united in marriage with Lester F. Gammeter, Sr on March 10, 1949 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Perry. They were blessed with 64 years together.
Rose spent her spring, summer and fall hours lovingly tending her garden, taking care to can and freeze the abundant produce. She spent many hours baking bread, making her famous cinnamon rolls and frying donuts. There was nothing better than being next to her when she took out a fresh hot donut from the brown bag covered in cinnamon sugar. Rose and Lester’s life together was filled with family, friends, hard work and fun. The pair spent their early summers camping with their children in northern Wisconsin and later at their cabin on Jump River. They enjoyed playing cards, visiting with family and friends and traveling. With so many family members in the military service, Lester and Rose traveled to all 50 states, as well as a number of other countries. Rose was known as “Mom” to many people in her life. You could always count on a great meal when Rose was cooking and an insightful story with a real-world lesson. She was an active member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church in Oregon, drove for Meals on Wheels, loved sewing and enjoyed researching the genealogy for the Gammeter, Aliesch, Pfister, and Lischeron families.
Rose is survived by two sons, Lester Jr. (Elizabeth) of Elizabeth City, NC and Rev. Daniel (Rev. Barbara) of Rapid City, SD; three daughters, Linda (Ron) Strode of Wasilla, AK, Rosalie (Russ) Rodenberg of Stoughton and Heidi (Nicholas) Meier of Mount Horeb; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; her sister, Iline Marking of Monona; in-laws, Norris (Lucy) Gammeter, Wilbert Gammeter, Goldie (Don) Brunner, Dorothy (Leo) Miller and Frieda (John) Haesler. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, Sr.; her son, David; grandsons, Jaime Martel and Peter Martel, brother and sister-in-law, Bill (Ruth) Pfister and sister, Betty; and in–laws, Gottlieb and Barbara (Aliesch) Gammeter, Helen (Marvin) Stensby, Mildred Syvrud, Ruby (Edwin) Koenig, William Gammeter, Edwin Gammeter, John Gammeter, Donald (Eleanor) Gammeter, Joan Gammeter, Yvonne Gammeter, and Jack Andreas.
Due to the unusual coronavirus situation, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH with Fr. Gary Wankerl presiding. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Oregon.
In lieu of flowers, any memorial donations may be made to The Rose Gammeter Family, c/o Gunderson Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, WI 53716.

"A penny saved is a penny earned." Grandma Rose share a special place in our lives. She taught us the value of life, in making sure we knew how to work and budget for whatever life threw at us, whether financially or otherwise. She always opened her house to share what she had, and she always welcomed us with a smile. I am grateful to have gotten to know her as deeply as I did, as she was the only Grandmother I knew. She never minced words, and said plainly what was on her mind - even when it was not popular. I appreciate her courage and strength to the very end, and I am grateful for the father she gave me. I know we will fellowship once again, when our Lord reunites the living and the dead. Blessed be the name of the Lord, and may Grandma Rose be blessed in the paradise she is now privileged to enjoy.
A prayer for Grandma Rose: "Glorified and sanctified be God’s great name throughout the world which He has created according to His will. May He establish His kingdom in our lifetime and during our days, speedily and soon; May His great name be blessed forever and to all eternity. Blessed and praised, glorified and exalted, extolled and honored, adored and lauded be the name of the Holy One, blessed be He, beyond all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations that are ever spoken in the world; May there be abundant peace from heaven, and life, for us and in memory of those that have passed; He who creates peace in His celestial heights, may He create peace for us and for all in His kingdom; and say, Amen."

Dear Grandma Rose,
There are so many things to say and so many memories made over the years especially the 5 years you went from being my Grandma to being a Mom to a teenager again. I am sure those times were not easy as you were older and well had an empty nest. The lessons on life, loving and how to work hard has never left me. I am now teaching to your namesakes and I hope one day they will pass on to their daughters. I wish we could have came to see you before you were called to be an angel but I know you are still watching over everyone. I loved the holidays, playing cards and never knowing what we are doing after church on any given Sunday. You taught me so much and not sure where to start because all my memories of you are my favorite from teaching me to cook, baking, gardening and running a tight ship of a household. There were lots of fun times and those times when you would do something extra special that would be surprising like on the cold winter nights after coming home and I would go to bed, you would toss an extra blanket in the dryer and cover me, not knowing that I was awake enough to know you did that... I think I liked the traveling we did especially when Grandpa Les would drive in the mountains then get close to the edge to tease you about how you can see straight down the side. The motels we would stay in where you would pull out your hot plate and make us a meal that could have been from the show Chopped actually come to think about it you are the Original Chop Basket Champ because those meals were tasty and better than any fast food. I want to thank you for being there when you did not have to and making those 5 year of living with you ones that taught me so much about myself as I reflect back but also how I found a love of cooking, baking and music. You supported me in band , chorus and church hand bells, never missing a chance to be there when I sang, or played the flute or had a solo in church with the hand bells. I know it had to be hard to adjust being a grandma to being a mom for those 5 years and not having an empty nest. You never stopped find a teachable moment and I hope you know my two girls will cherish the baby blankets you made them along with the other blankets you sewed them when they were younger. Thank you for my nickname of Jay and just being who you are as a person. I celebrate you and share all you taught me, in hopes of keeping family traditions of family holidays, playing cards and baking family recipes. I love you and you will be greatly missed. So go sing in Heaven, Play cards and enjoy your Angel Wings for you have earned them and so much more. Keeping you in my heart always... missing you .
Lots of Love,
Julia, Elizabeth-Anne RoseMarie and Ivory Rose

My special memory of grandma Rose is when I was a child, we use to go up every other weekend and just be at her house with her and grandpa. Also during Easter too. Playing hide and seek with my cousins and brother and sister too. Also during the summer we would be there for the whole summer and also hang out with Uncle David and going on Jeep rides with him and all the cousins packed in his Jeep. Grandma Rose taught me a lot of things growing up, one of those things, if you wanted her special cinnamon rolls, you had to get up at 4am in the morning to make them. They use to be so huge too. And the best too. She would change out the icing as well and taught us that too. I also learned how to cook from her and make some amazing food. When it was a family ordeal, all the Gammeter woman would all go into the kitchen to help grandma Rose with the food. We all would laugh and have a good time too. I am going to miss her so much and I am glad she was able to at least meet all 3 of my children even though she saw 1 more than the others. I am grateful for all she has taught me, shown me and loved me too. My family will remember all the good times we had, the funny times we had as well. Love you grandma Rose and go hang out with grandpa and your son David. I know your looking down on us and still guiding us throughout our lives.

My greatest memory is when Rose and her husband, Lester, my brother, with my mom took me to hospital to have my first born, Floyd, on December 25, 1963. One of many greatest gifts I received from God. Times with Rose was a blessing. God Bless Her! Rest in Peace with members of your family.
