Stephen Walter Roisum Sr.

MADISON - Stephen Walter Roisum Sr., age 70, of Madison, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, at his home. He was born on Aug. 26, 1950, in Madison, the son of Roger and Margaret O’Neill Roisum. Stephen was the oldest of 10 siblings, because of the various ages he enjoyed watching them grow up before his eyes. Stephen graduated from LaFollette High School, attended UW-Madison and Madison Area Technical College. He married Christine O'Neil on Aug. 28, 1971, in Madison. After marriage they had three children, Steve, Bill and Julie. Stephen started his career March 6, 1971, as a paramedic for Madison Fire Department, retiring on Jan. 2, 2001. After retiring, from the Madison Fire Department, he worked at Intercon Construction, S&L Underground, CET, and Northern Landscape Service. He was a member of St. Dennis Catholic Church, NHRA, and Teamsters Local No. 311. Stephen enjoyed camping with the family, dogs and anyone willing to have a nice time. He had a passion for racing drag cars, fixing cars, and riding his motorcycle. Steve attended Daytona Bike Week, Tomahawk Fall Ride and Sturgis. He loved taking care of his dogs, Sunday dinners, and most of all, spending time deer hunting in Barneveld with his boys. Stephen is survived by his mother, Margaret Roisum; daughter, Julie (Dan) Merritt; sons, Stephen Roisum Jr. (Ami Simons), and William Roisum; grandchildren, Billy James (Natalie) Roisum, Riley Roisum, Kassidy Roisum, and Leah Roisum; brothers, Randy (Nancy) Roisum, Ralph (Susie) Roisum, Eric (Sheila) Roisum, and Joe (Kara) Roisum; sisters, Kay (Dell) Dickens, Marie (Gene) Ackerman, and Lois (Walter) Kunicki; sister-in-law, Patricia Roisum; brother-in-law, Shawn Murphy; and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine; father, Roger; brother, Dennis Roisum; and sister, Janice Murphy. A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Agrace HospiceCare would be appreciated by the family.
