Obituary

BLUE MOUNDS - Dr. James L. “Doc” Jones D.V.M. age 85, of Blue Mounds, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021, at home with his loving family by his side. James was born at home on March 30, 1936, to his parents Loyd and Margaret Lucille (Martin) Jones in Gibson County, Indiana. He grew up in Flint, Michigan where he met his childhood sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Bernadine “Rose” (Jackovich). He attended Michigan State University, where he played football and studied veterinary medicine. He opened his first veterinary practice in 1960. In 1962 he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a Captain until 1964. Upon leaving the Army he returned to Wisconsin to continue practicing large animal veterinary medicine. He was an honor roll member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. In 1967 he moved his family to Blue Mounds, Wis. This is where he settled and raised his three children David, JulieAnne, and John. His greatest pleasure was participating in his children and grandchildren's lives. He was the preschool bus driver for each of his eight grandchildren for 23 years, earning him an honorary “preschool diploma” that he was very proud of. After 36 years, he retired from his veterinary practice in 1996. He enjoyed gardening, mowing, carpentry, playing golf, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and spending time with family. He is survived by his wife, Bernadine (Rose); his children, David (Cathy) Jones, JulieAnne (Gus) Schultz and John (Michelle) Jones; his grandchildren, Paul (Julie) Jones, Anne Jones, Samantha Schultz, Jimmy Schultz, George Schultz, Jack Schultz, Parker Jones and Payton Jones; his great-grandchildren, Olivia and Aubrey Jones; his godchild, Cindi McCully; his extended family, Merodee Buechner, Lori Burns and Konnie Jerabek; his in-laws Leonard (Sue) Jackovich, Eugene Jackovich, Lynn Jones; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Margaret Lucille; brothers, Jerry and Donnie Jones; in-laws, George and Rose Jackovich; and nephew Jason Jones.
