Jack Chvala was my coach for four years in high school and left an indelible mark thats lasted fifty years. Hockey meant more to me than anything at that point in my life and I was fortunate to have Jack at the helm- not because he was an world class coach (though he did make a pretty decent team out of “a bunch of dummies”), but because he was a good man and a consistent role model. He was a fair man, a funny man, a kind man and I’m certainly better for knowing him. Godspeed, Coach.

Dear Mary Pat and Family, So sorry to read about the loss of your father/grandfather. Mr. Chvala was my Algebra teacher at LaFollette back in the day. He was a wonderful teacher and human being who related well to his students. I remember him always having a smile on his face. May your happy memories of shared times together help comfort you during this difficult time. My deepest sympathies to all. 🙏 Lauri Coyle-Zander

Just a month ago I was back at LaFollette for my 51st high school reunion. I made it a special point to stop at Mr. Chvala's classroom. He was one of my favorite teachers - very friendly and caring as an educator. My memory is that I had him for homeroom immediately followed by math. What a great life he lived. Chuck, I was thinking of you, too, in my recent visit. Love to reconnect and share our own memories of playing hockey together. Tom Kelly
