Our coach at UW liked to use a 'training buddy' system pairing incoming freshman with upper classmen, I suppose to get them up to speed sooner. I was assigned to Dave and thoroughly enjoyed those months. He was just getting back to full work-outs after he broke his arm in his high school state final (which he won). He was always upbeat and trying 100% to put out his best. I was a 5th year and graduated after that season but came back a few years later and Dave was one of the guys I had to look up. Like most old teammates we were going different directions but kept in touch off and on over the years. The news of his death was extremely sad for me. He was an exceptional individual who made me feel better by knowing him.

I first saw Dave at the UW wrestling freshman orientation in 1979. At first, he scared me with his incredible physique and his history of winning a state championship with a broken arm. Then we met and his personality took over. He is one of the people I've met over the years that I talk about often. He was a good man. I feel blessed to have known him. Rest In Peace Good Friend
